What's wrong with that? Species shouldn't exist at the expense of the individuals it comprises.

The range of foods I eat now has expanded so much and I'm not even sure where to begin on that question. I'll go with most surprising favorite, which is Misr Wat. Can't believe it took me until my late 20s to try Ethiopian fo

And yes - by my logic, it's unethical to eat meat. I don't accept it now either.

Show me a person who genuinely believes killing others unnecessarily is acceptable and we've got much bigger problems than the ethics of meat. The problem isn't getting people to agree with moral axioms. It's getting people t

If we have a healthy, satisfying alternative - the ethical question of "Is it acceptable to kill or harm individuals unnecessarily?" has a very clear answer no matter who you're talking with.

I grew up subsisting on meat and pasta, hating vegetables. I've been a vegan for over ten years and fulfilled the whole time. There's a ton of amazing animal-free food out there that you should try either way. Once I started explo

I really doubt you or most other people can imagine what weeks of torture with death inevitably looming actually feels like. I think almost anyone would choose dying painlessly.

This article and the comment both referred to domesticated slaughtered animals, so your reply isn't directly applicable. But can we assume you exclusively eat wild animals? Otherwise it's completely irrelevant.

Agreed. At best, the article is an unsupported appeal to Nature.

I find it really strange that people think the way to connect with an individual is to cut up their dead body. I understand the sentiment, but it seems like a far cry from any sort of real connection with "the animal".

The premise that the lack of slaughtering/butchering manifests itself elsewhere does not seem to be supported by the evidence. In fact, what we often see is the exact opposite. The introduction of slaughterhouses correlate with increas

And if someone inserts a needle into you to take your blood and potentially transmits a dangerous disease? If we weren't on the topic of animal rights, there would be no disagreement with the assessment of self-defense.

Of course it can. Personhood is a philosophical concept in addition to a legal one. Empirically verifiable criteria can be and are set for what constitutes a person.

Are you going to explain how it's ridiculous or it just is because you don't like it? It's incredible how all logic goes out the window in a group of otherwise very intelligent people when the topic of animal rights comes up.

Factory farms are the big problem because they're the entire industry. There is absolutely no way to feed people at anywhere near the current consumption levels with pasture-raised animals.
