I am sitting on a pile of hacks of an Openbox setup right now, and it does most of these things (the one big thing missing at the moment is a language switcher, learned it the hard way), so I'm used to it. It's the attitude that a

That's... About the opposite of what I expect to see when I hear people talk about Linux on the desktop. It's definitely interesting though. But... Where's the GUI love? :( I know it's all about the terminal, but god dam

If you keep pushing yourself like this, you'll crash and burn, and it takes a long time to recover, trust me on this. Get your 8 hours of sleep, and remember that you are not a robot. Take care of yourself.

The employee in question is also the person that made that [Microsoft rebrand concept]( http://www.minimallyminimal.com/blog/2012/7/3/the-next-micro... ) from a while back.

Automation was a pretty big thing on OS X, though. I understand that Pro users are not Apple's market anymore, though, so I guess it makes sense...

The real dream is a user-serviceable MacBook, positioned towards power users - a "PowerBook", if you will. If Apple doesn't want battery life sacrificed, they don't offer the option to put 32GB of RAM in. Then if the use

What's the laptop market like in Japan anyway? I don't really know a lot about it, but it's always interesting to see these random Panasonic or Fujitsu laptops not sold here, or those rare Japan-exclusive experimental ThinkPa

I really long for a tiling wm with sane defaults. Even something as simple as volume buttons needed to be configured manually in i3wm, and after battling compositing for so long, I ended up just giving up and using GNOME.

On one hand, you get rid of a big attack vector. On the other, if a vulnerability in your code exists, it's there for good.

I would go for a MacBook Pro purely based on the keyboard. I honestly can't imagine using the new MacBook's keyboard for an extended period of time, key travel on it is abysmal.

I don't really have a specific direction I want this post to go in except for 'notes'. Apps people use, organization methods, digital vs paper, all fair game.

The terrible truth is that consumers don't give a shit about standards, freedom, and the greater good. They just want the website to work with the least amount of effort possible.

Definitely, that's why I love my T420 (got OS X on that). A nice SSD for the OS and other important stuff + a big HDD to put all the data on is still the best option, in my opinion.
