I've no doubt that HN is under pretty much constant deliberate, malicious attacks. Pretty much any site with decent traffic is under constant attack, and the high profile of HN means it'll be under far more scrutiny than others.

I have to disagree sorry. If a piece of software is needed by the date of a major launch, and a programmer doesn't ship, all because he wants to reduce the amount of code involved, then he's an awful programmer as far as the business is con

The real answer, as anyone who reads HN knows, is "a few hours after an already high ranking post, on the same controversial subject, but taking the opposite stand" :)

I've no idea what the bandwidth caps are like on t-mobile, but the google music streaming service is pretty nice on android, so it's not like you have to fill up the phone SD card with every song you've ever owned. If you love watching film

Personally, and I know this is a ridiculous dream, I'd rather see a clone of Wordpress functionality which maintained 95%+ plugin compatibility, but which had things like caching built-in (and just more sensible handing of files and databas

I don't know where in Europe you're currently based, but Datasift are in the UK and seem to be one of the hottest "social media analytics" companies out there. Their staff seem fairly active on twitter itself, maybe give them a try [1] 1 -

What manipulation do you think is going on here? Do you think recoiledsnake is a Microsoft-shill, or something else? Looking at his previous posts and comments, I seriously doubt he is.

Calling something that ships with HSPA+ "obsolete" stikes me as slightly over the top, it's still capable of 42Mbps, and there was a relatively recent test [1] which showed T-Mobile's HSPA+ running faster than Verizon. 1 - http://www.phone

It's great that EC2 prices are coming down, but they're really not keeping up with the general trend in computing prices. If you're running a static set of computers on EC2 today, and not making use of other features like S3, ELB, etc, you'

I think there's value in that kind of person, but probably not as your direct manager. If it was a mentor relationship then the unvarnished truth is pretty much what you need to hear.

I think Intel's major worry with ARM is that simply speaking, ARM don't need their licencees to be particularly profitable at making chips for them to carry on designing chips, they just need them to buy new licences. For Intel, having a co

A big part of how much faster LTE is than HSPA+ (which the Nexus 4 ships with), is the fact that most LTE networks are massively under-utilised. HSPA+ can run at 42Mbps in theory, but network congestion makes that a pretty much impossible

It certainly indicates that Go is the language you should probably be using on AppEngine, given that you pay for resource (CPU, memory, etc) usage, and Google themselves are optimising Go to minimise that same usage for their own systems.

I'm pretty sure a significant minority (majority even?) of HN readers make their living by writing software for Apple devices, or use them every day at work and at home as their technology of choice. I think Apple's problem is, at least in

I think the final price of the Cubieboard is $50, the cheapest SSDs start at around $50 too [1][2], so yeah it's going to add to the price, but it's also going to make it useful for a lot more projects than an SD card. 1 - http://www.neweg

One interesting thing about the Cubieboard is the SATA port, otherwise it's very similar to a lot of other ARM boards out there (e.g. Beagleboard, Pandaboard, etc). This makes it much easier to stick a low power SSD on the device, rather th
