It's not massively hard, but it's also not trivial either, and most ISPs have a "If it's not broke, don't fix it" policy for fundamental things on their network.

I'm not sure you can quantify the risk of loss with e-books being significantly higher than with physical books. There are a lot of house fires, any one of them could destroy your book collection (even the smoke damage alone can make then u

Lots of the comments below read like they're full of bitterness and jealousy to me, I suspect the comment is targeted at them rather than the original article.

MySQL can do parallel querying through some of the less common back-ends, like Infinidb, which are more suited to warehousing than OLTP like InnoDB/XtraDB. http://infinidb.org/component/content/article/53/158

Toshio, your comment below is [dead] so I can't reply, but the databases vary from 10's of GB to multi-TB depending on their use. The DBs are often very write intensive on the master, with as much reading as possible done on slave databases

SQL Server 2008 and upwards are incredibly solid, we use it extensive at my current work place doing telecoms stuff and have very few issues. It's not what I would have picked (I come from a Linux and Oracle background), but I've been very

To me, it's one thing to capitalise on a companies on-going downtime issues, that indicated an inability or unwillingness to resolve the issue, but it's another thing entirely to take advantage of a situation that could as easily be affecti

From the asm FAQ, it seems like GC will happen: Q. Can asm.js serve as a VM for managed languages, like the JVM or CLR? A. Right now, asm.js has no direct access to garbage-collected data; an asm.js program can only interact indirectly with

The legal advice that companies like IBM and intel would have gotten in these situations would almost certainly precluded firing people over it, conservatism runs both ways.

The difference is between MLC (unreliable) and SLC (reliable) SSDs. MLC (Multi-Level Cell) SSDs are slightly slower, a lot cheaper, and less reliable than SLC (Single Level Cell) SSDs. Fundamentally, an MLC stores more data in each cell (he

Exactly, to say an SSD is 8x the cost of a hard drive, or even 2x the cost, is missing the point. Even an expensive SSD is _cheaper_ than a HD on an IOPs to IOPs comparison, and IOPs is what matters to most people.

From what I understand, link building, in the semi-legitimate form at least, is contacting bloggers and journalists and saying "Hey, you might really like product X, here's a 30 day trial", sending out press releases, making sure you're in
