Just a heads up; post-smartphone means the era after the smartphone. Maybe you intended to say this, then I'm really curious about your perspective?

If you are into videos, I found this playlist to be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLC3y8-rFHvwisvxhZ135p... He goes through how it used to be done before hooks and how easily it can be done now. I've b

I don't agree with you - you're presenting the view which is the exact position people here are trying to put words to why doesn't work (and often hate about their jobs). But downvoting you is just as counterproductive as bur

No, it will be much less as seen from the ship. Seen from Earth, it'll be around 13 years (takes a year to got close to c and another to decelerate - that is two years to travel roughly a lightyear, then 11 to travel 11).

I think current technology makes no sense when talking about interstellar travel. I wonder how long it'd take, seen from the perspective of the ship, if we had an engine capable of delivering a constant 1g acceleration. That's the

I think Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electrical Sheep" (Bladerunner's inspirational material, yes; but very, very different) has an impressive walkthrough of these predicaments. AFAIK Dick always wrote about &q

This could be true, but I don't think it is. There's a lot of money to be made in making weapons if there's a war. And the US is constantly waging wars, rarely with victory-conditions thought out in advance. As long as the mo

I agree with this, with one exception. > Like anything else we lose hope on, it will never change until those using it change. To me, this part comes off as implicitly defeatist. I don't think "people" change, and while ge

Dane here: last year, all the insects at my mom's farm were gone. No cherries, very few apples - worst harvest we've ever experienced. The buzzing is simply gone and it is chilling. It is like being in a silent city; wrong.
