Similar does not mean the same. A good example is the story of prudism and genitals, where women were expected to be prudent with the rationale that god hid their genitals away.

These kind of evolutionary theories often make for captivating and plausible stories, they are also pretty much universally false. Similar trains of thought were used in the middle ages for example to rationalize male and female roles in so

`noprocrast` has one upside over /etc/hosts though, which is that when you've hit the limit you can not just go and disable it, you have to wait for the timeout. Definitely one of the features I'm very grateful for on HN

First off, glad it worked out nicely for you and there were no complications. I'm gonna stretch the alcohol analogy a bit here, because that's most likely to be relatable to everyone, but of course the situation is a bit more nuan

If the reporting is accurate, which is really not a given with MIT, this is great news. For all its upsides, general anesthesia is still dangerous and very rough on you, and all these effects are always amplified for young patients.

A small suggestion regarding framing, you might find yourself getting a friendlier welcome if instead of putting other software down, you instead highlight why yours is good. For example, instead of saying i3 is bloated, you could say your

While cool as a shower thought, in reality, having a 1200HP car jump and go airborne while you're swerving to avoid a pothole is just about the last thing you want it to be doing. Traction control is pretty good these days, but not tha

You could make the same quip about nearly any piece of software, yet most everyone on HN still has a business or a job. If it exists, but I can't find it or it's too cumbersome to set up or use, it's functionally as good to m

It's hard to give this take serious thought when just today I built a bunch of utility software I'd been putting off due to lack of time and domain specific knowledge, all by working together with an LLM. Takes some time and back

This is absolutely brilliant. Is there a way for you to put this on Spotify or make the files downloadable? Not familiar with the pricing, capabilities and licensing of Suno, so sorry if this is not possible.

There are numerous conflicts worldwide where one side is trying to systematically destroy the other population, civilians and all. Whether they are exactly the same or how you define that is pretty secondary to that fact.

Maybe o3 is better on whatever the current benchmark vogue is, but in real world use I keep switching back to 4o. It hallucinates less, is more accurate and way more coherent.
