I don't have a problem with syncing, so long as it is not turned on by default. I also wouldn't use it if it depends on iCloud.

When I ran Plan 9 inside of VMWare Fusion, the one thing I missed was Readline/Libedit. I honestly don't know how people did without them.

I've never really understood Inferno. Sometimes it is described as something you run from a browse and others as a standalone OS. Which is it?

Oh really? I seem to recall Ubuntu sending people's search results to Amazon. Why did they do that? They are a corporation and, thus, more concerned about money than freedom. My comment stands.

I think that if you are concerned about freedom, then you need to use an OS that is not controlled a commercial entity. OS X, iOS, Windows, Android, ChromeOS, and Ubuntu all have issues; even though some of them are open source.

They are not a US site so why would they concern themselves with the DMCA?

Because there are a group of Linux users out there who are more interested in creating a desktop-OS than a Unix-OS. Honestly, at this point, why not rename SystemD to svchost.exe and set it up to use .reg files for configuration?

UAC was not that big of a deal. I used Vista and it hardly bothered me. I suspect most of the whining came from people not used to the separation of user and administrative privileges.

Speaking as a NetBSD user, I hope Pkgsrc issues a warning prior to installing software that sets exemptions via paxctl. I would want to know.

Systemd is useful; assuming your goal is to turn Linux into Windows. Personally, I would rather use a well crafted Unix system.

I liked playing with Twitter in 2009 or 2010. It was almost completely text based and it displayed timelines in a straight forward manner. But then they started to mess with it: link shortners, inline multimedia, the war on 3rd party Twitte
