Yet another fantastic joeyh project in my toolkit, thanks! (git-annex is awesome)

Just learned about this tool, also using ipython for this. Seems it is actually controlled by the `PYTHONSTARTUP` env var, which can be set to the path to your `.pythonrc`, so should work with ipython too!

People said the same thing to me about computers when growing up, so this has never been a particularly convincing argument to me.

That seems backwards to me. I use LLMs for functional reasons to learn things, why shouldn't kids? Isn't this exactly a "disagreement of content" which the political group would care more about than the functional?

I thought "Wiki" was used to include other wikis. If you dismiss peoples opinion ("quality of any insights") on the basis of their choice of words or abbreviations instead of the content, it becomes really hard to assume

This is why I started building gptme almost 2 years ago. Making these agents/tools local-first has many benefits like that. GitHub: https://github.com/ErikBjare/gptme

I haven't used it in a year, but my experience was it frequently broke in all sorts of ways. I have since avoided it like the plague.

Less intuitive? Sure, but those who learn it tend to agree it's the better option. Not sure what "dog slow" means, but it's really fast for me, at least when using a fast terminal emulator.

The author doesn't know what I know, yet the title suggests they do. That's the only assertion I see, and at least for me it isn't even a valid one.

But you said you haven't tried Aider, how can you say it's a "leap in UX"? My own tool `gptme` lets the agent interactively read/collect context too (as does Anthropic in their latest minimal-harness submission to S

This was surprising to me too. I've also built a similar free and open-source tool gptme (2.5k stars), since the start of last year (GPT-3.5). It has been impossible to ignore the great work done by Aider.

I've always found the weights-as-binaries description woefully inept, words do indeed mean something.

This had been possible for a year already. My project gptme does it just fine (like many other tools), especially now with Claude 3.5.

I take issue with the first and major point: "You Rob Yourself of Learning Opportunities" My experience has been quite the opposite: it speeds up my rate of work as I get answers faster, and thus gives me more learning opportuniti

I wasn't the one arguing it all the way back in the 70s, feel free to read up on the history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_fluoridation_by_country#...

I think it's not so much a policy position as an attempt at clarifying the scope, so that people don't get the wrong idea and expect the impossible (banning it entirely, which is unenforceable).

If Meta/FAANG can make it work for them, it's not unreasonable to assume those improvements will trickle down to consumers/smaller companies.

As a Swede I always found it interesting we were one of the few countries which do not flouridate tap water. Our country took a principled stance against mass-medicating the population with fluoride many decades ago, after a lot of push-bac
