4096 tokens is pretty short by today's standards for transformers too.

5% accuracy can be worth a lot. The price of any of these services pales in comparison to getting a human involved in any fraction of cases. It is likely reasonable to expect the base LMs to keep getting better and for there to not be a moa

This is not the norm in the US. In markets where capital is more scarce, people may want to avoid giving up more equity.

This will be solved eventually on the AI model side. It isn't some law of nature that it takes a million tokens for an AI to learn something; just the fact that we can prompt these models should convince you of that.

IIRC based on my experience open sourcing some code for a paper, I think you just need to get VP approval, which is probably not that hard if you are a well respected L6/7 in your org.

It's worse because people don't want to hire in those countries and the conjecture here is also that layoffs are unrelated to productivity, so there is nothing you can personally do to avoid getting laid off except having a family

I had the same reaction. This sort of law makes it very expensive to keep ambitious young folk like the author in a layoff. I am very confused about how this works in practice though. Presumably you're not expected to keep an old accou

HN is just such an anomaly that taking people's individual preferences here to heart is a bad strategy. We do email only deals, we do LinkedIn message only deals and we have a self-serve funnel. The most important deals that make up th

This is the sort of thing I used to think when I was a student with no money. Now I have a job in tech and I can afford many multiples of $12 a month, thousands even.

ESPN+ is $12 for a month via Hulu. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Finding this info is ridiculous though.

This only works if your sales strategy is all about inbound sales, i.e. content marketing (like this article)/ads. But if you're an enterprise b2b company and want to grow quickly rather than taking 8 years to go beyond 1 solopren

I don't think it is actually in business' interests to stop VPNs here. Using a VPN, with the associated hassle, likely indicates the person is stingy and very price sensitive, so you want to keep giving them the cheaper prices rel

ML is quite good at understanding and forecasting patterns when you train on the data you want to forecast. LLMs manage to do so much because we just decided to train on everything on the internet and hope that it included everything we eve

Reusing existing digital compromise toolkits on a presumably far less hardened targets across the street is far easier than trying to deploy hardware thousands of miles away. The timeline here for the entire sequence of events is 1-2 weeks.

I don't think this actually has anything to do with tech itself. Society in general is in a more pessimistic mood than a decade ago, driven on by all sorts of institutions pumping out content that everything is bad, so you should upend

There is already a very big tax break for entrepreneurs: QSBS. You have to stick it out for 5 years (the rollover provisions are not well aligned with SAFEs), but all your capital gains are tax free up to $10m. Reforming the rollover provis

My only piece of non-obvious advice: Get a CO2 meter and measure the levels before you sign a contract. It can be really bad and impact your ability to work. Getting some sound absorbing material is good too, but you can figure out if you n

I presume the issue here is that the DA did not believe they could prove beyond reasonable doubt that this was assault and not a model regretting she did a porn shoot. It vaguely sounds like they had an OF that did a bunch of these shoots,

I think this is a great point; I don't think it is widely known (it certainly was not to me) that stock photography sites already have a model release process to reference.

Right, the point of releases is to separate those who were assaulted from those who were not. Without releases these two groups can appear the same, making prosecution difficult.

The model releases did not protect the offenders in the GirlsDoPorn case and serious prison sentences were handed out, so I'm not sure what you think went wrong with the law here? (My reading here is cursory, so do let me know) It seem

I am skeptical that putting a model release requirement in their ToS is sufficient, since the goal here is to have sex offenders be separable from regretful models in court proceedings. I think this might require a separate law to be meanin

It feels weird to view this case as a primary Section 230 issue rather than looking at the fact that the DA did not prosecute this case and took a plea deal. Civil trials have a lower burden of proof, so it's unsurprising the plaintiff
