Facebook has been putting a lot more ads in the newsfeed lately. I find it irritating because I can't just avoid them like I do with the ads on the right! These types of actions may lead more users to Google+

As a counter to one of his points I've seen developers who are completely oblivious to money management and are always working on their own projects despite having loans and having gone to an expensive school. I'm like you though buddy I di

Why would they obfuscate this if they intended to publish it? Maybe this means it was not meant to be published...

I actually believe the mindset this author has (along with many university professors) makes learning far more difficult for students and discourages them from staying in STEM (math and science) degrees. I have consistently found that for m

The thing is - we really only need one cure for a particular strand of cancer. Once we've actually done it we've done it. Bearing this in mind I think these stories deserve a fair amount of optimism.

One thing I find a tad irritating about being male and trying to look good (as superficial as it is) is the discrepancy between gaining muscle and losing fat. It seems females only have to go one direction -> be skinny whereas for males

What I've never understood is what exactly makes a computer snappy. My RAM is never fully used, CPU percentage often in the single digits, Solid state drive - still I feel like it could be snappier. I wonder where the deficit is?

As someone who has never used git I found this tutorial relatively acceptable. I was disappointed there was not a level 2!

I do not know the back-story but I think of Groupon as being a startup composed of "hustlers." They created a tremendously successful yet obviously fragile niche in online retail. I think they knew from the beginning it was not sustainabl

I honestly think "coming up" in drug-dealing or as a rap-star are analogous to running a successful startup. In both professions the system is trying to quell/control your rise to success and it takes an extraordinary amount of willpower/t

I'm sorry for your loss but to some degree the premise seems a bit idealistic. I have a hard time believing the myth that there are people who truly enjoy every aspect of a job. If one is lucky they enjoy a portion of it. For example I l

I remember the SAT as more about checking oneself's first reaction to a problem. They often try to trick you with the obvious answer. The GMAT and GRE were quite similar. I would often have to stop myself from taking shortcuts

I don't see how this is any sort of revolutionary invention... certainly not an idea that is patent-able. I've already participated in classes where an online code was required to access the publisher's homework... same idea really.

Nowadays I think a viable substitute is simply exposure to such people through a technical medium. A lot of my friends don't accomplish anything, yet I associate through technology with people and energy that inspires me to accomplish more

If an attacker gets access to a database of user names/hashes, a salt prevents him from simply checking the hashes against a precomputed list because each hash is totally unique. The attacker would have to recompute all hashes for each user

it is not necessarily a bad thing that our general populous is more educated. What I am appalled at is the cost of higher level education and those who willingly choose private schools and copious amounts of debt.
