Recycling and repairability are not mutually exclusive, more often quite the opposite. Also, there are many devices where i don’t care for newer models, like the dishwasher.

I’ve recently started repairing more of my own stuff, and it’s actually really fun. I’ve replaced the clickers and scroll sensor on my Razer mouse, resoldered bad connections on our failed washing machine, and removed a piece of dust that

“ the language is actually appropriate in a wide variety of situations, and has libraries to back it up in all of those”

I would say next.js comes closest for a ‘nodejs server framework’ for me. It’s really great to only use one language for frontend, backend and templating.

It's not profitable yet because people can still switch to other browsers. When chrome has a monopoly, they will be gone in a heartbeat. Also, look into what chrome recently did to the APIs adblocker extensions use, even in the current

The "solution" of installing an extension is a bit shortsighted. Google can and will just remove the possibility for extensions to block FLOC in the future, when it's deemed profitable to do so.

For those interested in trying out the spreadsheet model in actual programming i recommend Mobx. It tracks what values are used in which calculation, and auto-runs them again, just like a spreadsheet.

The article explains exactly about how a growing list of issues, with every ticket needing time and effort to figure out is bad for their mental health. Then your response is: "no, every ticket should stay open until it gets a response

There's a ton of other functions you need like element.addEventListener, insertAdjacentElement, XMLHttpRequest (when you need progress) etc. etc. At that point you might as well save yourself and the person after you a major headache

Please consider making the left and right arrow keys half-height, so you can easily feel them out by hand. Macbook recently made this change with good reason. I’ve got the older model, and it’s hell if you’re used to a standard keyboard.

No source, it just seems like basic logic to me that people who don't spend a lot of time on your product are very prone to cancelling. The linked article seems to confirm that Stadia is not doing so great. Busy people are a great mark

This is the problem for Stadia, it’s target audience is gamers who don’t have a lot of time to game. That is not a fruitful market.

I’m still stuck with crappy nvidia without wayland support. Can anybody recommend a reasonably priced amd card that will drive my 4k screen nicely?

You must have missed the last five years where Apple is looking to extract increasingly more value from “services” i.e. the app store. They very very much want to retain their monopoly there.

When reading this I instantly get this sinking feeling of another doomed Windows version. Why does microsoft insist on trying to make versions that are less featureful, and have less hardware compatibility? Those are windows’ strong suits.

Yes, ‘set -euo pipefail’ is a must for safety in every bash script, I had to learn that the hard way too. More info: https://vaneyckt.io/posts/safer_bash_scripts_with_set_euxo_p...

Thanks, I already tried that once before and it didn't really make a difference, will try again. On GNOME you can't use wayland if you're using nvidia's binary driver, which I am.

I’ve found that firefox has become quite slow on X11 on linux, can anyone suggest some fixes? Can’t switch to wayland because of nvidia. On windows it’s solid however! Edit: just saw this in the release notes for 84: “ Additionally we'
