Maybe, but the iPad is a microwave that will only heat Apple certified food. And while Apple said it will only use their certification program to prevent the heating of cats, it took only a few days until Apple prohibited heating aluminium

Does people only get the data who donated, or also how much?In the latter case, Sony now has a strategic asymmetric advantage: it can estimate how much money Geohot has for his defense, and then drag out the process so long until he has no

Why aren't all reactors mandated to keep a huge tank of emergency water at some height, so that you only need to open some bulkhead and gravity will ensure that the reactor gets cooled during the 7 or so days it takes to cool down. No batte

Google respects if I don't want my content indexed. This guy doesn't. I can't believe we're even discussing this stuff. This guy is clearly in criminal backwaters fencing illegal stuff. How can you even remotely vindicate his behavior? "Oh

It's all down to different cultures. Open Source projects, the way they currently are, are driven by coders - version control, bugtrackers, IRC etc - all geeky things. Designers work in different environments: personal discussions, meetings

That's still quite a lot considering that square aims at people casually exchanging money and is in competition with cash. Square, $100 changing hands 3 times: $91.97 Money, $100 changing hands 3 times: still $100.

Like many, I was eager to get my hands on it. But Apple changing their rules mid-game and a probable removal of the Kindle app left a sour taste in my mouth. I will most likely sit this one out.

Great pictures. But without keyboard shortcuts to jump directly between pictures, one is constantly micro-managing the window scrolling to fit each pic inside the browser window.

You know, the egyptian people want freedom and stability. The US is mainly interested in stability. Which makes stability kind of an important point. Now everybody is asking "who will be the next president". Now that's the wrong question co

Explanation 1: Imagine writing a lengthy blog post, article or something similar - and actually getting paid for it. That's what Amazon is trying here. By coming from a different angle, "books", where we have a traditional readiness to pay,

I feel Google's decision with h.264 is more related to its decision to pull out of china than Apple's decision to switch to CISC. Google decided to nix h.264 because it wanted to "do the right thing". The current internet landscape with its

Well they did valuable work. It's only the MPEG-LA that's acting badly. In fact, one should probably bypass the MPEG-LA and talk directly to the patent holders.

Here's a another point: People around the world wished for "Personal Hotspot" (where your iPhone becomes a UMTS-Wifi router) for years. I talked to a high-up guy at a big European provider about this wish - reply "Apple won't listen to us".

You know what we actually need? A h.264-buyout. Let's ask MPEG-LA how much they are planning to earn by the time their licence runs out (2024?). It will probably be ~200 Million or so. Then ask the whole internet to chip in. Result: all the

With mobile being more important in the long run than desktops, and Android gaining ever more importance over the iPhone, we just need Google adopting their open codecs in both Android hardware and YouTube, and it's game over for h.264.

We have to make steps towards 100% trustable counsellors to talk to. Certification programs, regular auditions. Have them live together in a remote place with the rule that talking about patients means expulsion. I'm just spitballing here,

Please don't link to that blog again. It takes up 30% of a typical CPU just to show a single, static web page. Even when the page is in a hidden tab. Thank you. (OS X 10.5, Safari 5.0.3)
