There's no way I would donate to Thunderbird in its present state. Why should I want to give money to people doing things I don't like? That's like paying money to Google!

Look into Interlink from Binary Outcast. It was originally based on Pale Moon in the same way Thunderbird is based on Firefox.

Nextdoor also has a local ads / classified ads section. I expect that would be the next destination for the FB Marketplace users (since they mostly fled Craigslist previously).

You're suggesting that one of the old Rules of the Internet, LURK MOAR, should be more suggested. I agree with you, but I think this is one of those problems that the Eternal September brought on.

Well, if by 'for years', you mean 25 years, you're right. ECMAScript is still hot garbage that clogs up computers and the internet, ballooning requirements on browsers and nearly forcing the monoculture we have in terms of br

Thank you for sharing this. I work with marketing tech, and having this laid out allows me to share with them a little more of the tech that we rely on. And, it allows me to remind them that our work is utterly terrifying in terms of privac

Well, I was already pretty much ignoring the W3C already since HTML5. Now I can really let go, which will put me back to HTML 3.0 with no CSS nonsense.

IMO, HN readers can't be the target audience of a mapping product that's being used as a backbone of so many large projects. You have to make it painfully simple and give people a real incentive to do it.

That makes you part of the problem of Google's takeover, not part of the solution of a free Web.

Most people who just want to eat an apple (even an apple a day) don't have bandwidth to pick them. Offer them the option of picking apples at an orchard for free vs. buying a bag of apples at a grocery, and most people will go buy the

Nope, but we have a fairly active Slack channel that we use, so we just put things in text. Having that on my work PC and IRC on my personal really gets mind-boggling.

You can make that choice. On the other hand, if you decide on not making the situation right on that, you'll alienate not only accessibility-focused users, but also a very loud minority - some of whom are influential across tech (or te

What you're missing is that I'm talking about developers having a choice between providing the best possible product in a technical sense, or simply going the way of profit and greed. To me, when you knowingly produce a substandar

The fact that it didn't respond to commands as well as Zork or A Mind Forever Voyaging didn't help the case. Infocom had a pretty solid engine for "natural language" input. Too bad they couldn't adapt it well.
