You beat me to it! We've done well to get as far as we have with HTML5, JavaScript and everything else in-between. However, the web is not a suitable platform to develop on. Sure, it's very handy and there are some applications that work we

The biggest issue holding back Web Development isn't Internet Explorer. It's incompetent developers. I agree entirely with this post. Sure, coding a site to work in IE6 is a pain in the ass, especially when working with JavaScript-powered e

This almost seems like a browser problem for me, rather than a problem that developers should solve. If you use Firebug or the equivalent across the browsers it's very easy to see the "maximised" CSS, but surely a setting to do this when vi

That's a poor argument when so many people express this opinion. If any developers get satisfaction working on the platform it's because they like the platform; again a personal preference rather than a solid reason for believing Apple's de

How else do we come to a meaningful conclusion when posed the question "why won't iOS app developers leave the platform if the conditions are so poor" if it's not from assessing the motivations of those that build them?

I am a developer (web dev by day), and I have developed and published apps that are on the respective marketplaces for Android, Apple and Blackerry. Regardless of my credentials, if you're relying on building apps to feed your family then I

Are you from the US? If so, you can make money on the Android market quite easily. The idea that iOS is the only platform that can make money is a very dated idea, and one that never really had any merit in the first place. There's a reason

The fact that so many of the comments replying to yours are quick to defend Apple says it all really. Developers will put up with more crap than they should when platform religion gets in the way. Sure, there are arguments against switching

YouTube isn't the only Flash video player though. What if you click a Vimeo link? What about a link on the BBC? It would be ideal if there were a good native solution for all videos, but I can imagine this to be quite a hard problem.

It appears that no one who has commented so far has used Flash on ICS. I use Flash on my Galaxy Nexus, and it runs perfectly fine for everything I want to look at. Sure, it's rubbish for things like games and full-flash websites (the latter

Those sound like nothing but excuses for being a terrible web developer. "First is cost. Even if it only takes 10 grand to make a site "functional" in x browser, rebuilding an application to fully work with ie7 does not. If it takes 15-20%

Your computer is barely two years old, and doesn't reflect your internet connection. Most people are on far older, and probably far slower connections.

I currently work with a number of large clients in the travel sector, and you'd be very surprised. Yes, it's restricting at times, but any developer worth their salt can write code that works in all browsers fairly easily. I've spent enough

Don't get me wrong. I love photography on web pages, but the page itself is similar to so many modern web pages. It's full of JS, it crawls on modern machines and just doesn't look nice enough to justify the size of the page. The page barel

When I see heavy web pages like this it makes me worry about the state of front-end web design. According to YSlow, the site came to 3.5MB, which is quite large when compared to the average home page. The site took at least five seconds to

I love Chrome on Android, but for some reason it feels more "chunky" than the stock browser, which is completely different to how Chrome feels compared to Firefox and IE on the desktop. I still use the stock browser, mainly for the Flash su

I would recommend ASP.NET and C#. The .NET framework is fantastic, Visual Studio is a fantastic IDE and C# is a great language to learn and use. If you don't wish to use ASP.NET then I would highly recommend Python and Django as a platform.
