Looking back at the code that I was thinking of, it looks like I was using requestAnimationFrame to do the actual DOM manipulation (based on a variable that was updated in touchmove). Maybe Mobile Safari still allows DOM manipulation during

If Apple's strategy is so sound and Microsoft's is so flawed, why did all of OS X combined never even manage to crack 50% of Vista's peak user base, according to global web stats[0] over that period? Frankly, I have a hard ti

To put that in perspective, Windows 7 and Snow Leopard were released to manufacturing at about the same time, and that ~4 years is roughly 25% of the time that Microsoft supported Windows XP. I'm biased, but that kind of organization-w

Microsoft (like Apple, Google, etc) has a large portion of their profits stuck overseas and can't repatriate that money without paying US income taxes on it. That's why spending the money internationally is appealing to them.

One of the main reasons I stick with Google Voice for my primary number is so I can send and receive SMS messages from a computer with a keyboard. There's a Windows 8 app so I can use it on my desktop and Surface natively, and it works

I think the game mechanics are off slightly, compared to the iOS app. I had this layout (with some other unrelated tiles): - - - - - - - - 1 - - - 2 - - - And, pressed down to combine the 1 and 2, but it wouldn't let me un

In this same vein, people here might be interested in Lumosity[0]. I've been using it for a few months, on and off (I'm terrible about not doing it consistently each day), and it's interesting enough that I'd probably re

You're right, I exaggerated a bit much there. You really could get a good 60-70" 1080 display for what a cruise really ends up costing for a couple people after the bilk you for all of the things that aren't part of the all i

If Wikipedia's to be believed, OnLive has a datacenter here in Georgia with me, probably in metro Atlanta. This same machine I used to try OnLive has a 10-12ms ping to my Linode here in their Atlanta datacenter. It's not going to

I'd heard of this before, but never tried it myself. Out of curiosity, I just tried playing a game through OnLive, using my relatively high-end (for the US) business broadband connection. I chose Witcher 2 since it was featured on the

I recently moved from a MacBook Air (running OS X, not Windows) to a Samsung Ultrabook and haven't seen any noticeable difference in battery life pro or con. That's with it driving a 3200x1800 display and a Core i7 processor too.
