I'm genuinely curious what you mean by "almost every way". I use the Gmail web interface daily because its keyboard shortcuts for labeling, archiving, and deleting are unbeatable for triaging my inbox, but it pales in comparison to Outlook

I think a lot of people who have only been exposed to web based email don't realize what they're missing in a good native client. I have several friends in that mid/late-20s age range that went to work in corporate jobs, used Outlook 2010 f

I think his point is that $7/month is reasonable. What's hard to understand is why you could privately host a project the size of jQuery or Rails for $7/month, but his 50 projects that are orders of magnitude smaller and less active would

Trillian (at least on Windows) is a great Skype IM client -- much better than Skype itself, IMO (not that that's saying a lot).

I agree with your overall point, but public defenders get paid low to mid five figures. In fact, many lawyers do not make six figures. The median attorney salary in most areas is much lower than you'd think.

I generally agree with his overall YAGNI message. Architecture astronomy and smart complexifiers on projects that could be simple are a couple of my biggest development pet peeves. I'm not sure I follow how that equates to technical debt th

So, if "computing operating systems" is what we're measuring now, no one should complain about Microsoft's monopoly advantage anymore, right? The most frustrating thing about reading pop-journalism about Microsoft these days is watching peo

You realize that Asymco post is just speculation and the chart is based on that speculation, right? Those individual bars aren't based on any directly related facts or financials. He's very clear about that. By the same token: http://www.t

I'm not sure how it's elitism to point out that the specific demographic you mentioned is not one that lends itself to Google's central business. Like I very specifically said, I personally think it's great as a developer who benefits from

Google is a public company, with fiduciary duty to its shareholders. It is at least somewhat about the money. If Google can't make Android a profit center, there's nothing stopping Android from being relegated to FeedBurner status or going

There's no need to be like that. I own multiple Android devices myself. Just the fact that so many Android devices have been sold isn't very convincing. Lots of MySpace accounts were opened and lots of RIM devices were sold in years past to

That's not true. The Windows 8 Pro "System Builder" license is the same price as 7 Pro, not "more expensive than ever." The upgrade is only $40 for the next two months, going up to $70 in February, which is the cheapest its ever been. So, t

I've been using Windows 8 on my primary machine for about a year. I couldn't imagine going back to Windows 7. 8 is a clear upgrade once you learn to use it (which takes very little time if you actively attempt to learn the new interface).

So, are you saying it would make you happy if an ad-less Minesweeper were available in the Store for a couple dollars? I prefer buying paid apps when they're available too. I don't play a ton of games, but I own the paid version of the ones

Out of curiosity, do you avoid all ad-supported freeware? This seems no less innocuous than other popular free apps with ads like Words with Friends, Skype, Evernote, Trillian, etc. That's a fair point about the pre-loading when you likely

That doesn't match my experience at all. Just to check my sanity, I flipped open Minesweeper and played a game on easy. Between the loading time and my 23 second win, I spent about the 30 seconds you mentioned from start to finish entirely.
