My fantasies are a bit more charitable: Taking long dead people for a tour of the present, to see the consequences of their discoveries. As a kid I used it as a way of analyzing the ramification of singular ideas, or understanding the compl

Yep. Whenever google autocompletes to "... reddit" I end up choosing that option, because it foretells that the results are going to be crap if I don't.

Sorry, but in my book responsiveness and functionality doesn't have a thing to do with accuracy (neither does parallelism if I may throw it in there).

But I am not upset in the least about the rioters or anyone else, I can assure you. Guarding people's privacy and rights to a voice (during protests or otherwise) is a good use of the first and fourth amendments. But let's not con

He didn't "pin" it though. He said it was going to be a peak of a 10 year period. Being that 2020 is a round number, I wonder how many other (more unsofisticated) doomsayers simply guessed.

I'm talking about the discourse sorroundig privacy, not literally specifically about my phone. I hate to see it marketed as a tool of revolution instead of just common sense practices. Your use of "ideologically driven" is co

>Pirates? Well, yeah. There's a good reason why those became uncommon. But it's hard to tell how each state actor would behave if they treated their nearby international waters as their own.

It's unthinkable insofar as both sides are prompt for action. Planning for it is in itself a clear signal of capability and intention. I'm pretty sure many foreign officials just read it too.

I'm glad to see the discussion about what privacy should look like progress, with increasingly big actors treat data as something too delicate to play warden until the next breach. But it just feels cheap and detrimental to LARP as a t

How do you even define accuracy for an analog process which solves for unknown formulations? Not saying you can't, but afaik there's no ground to call them accurate. It's certaintly chucking a lot of data in functional ways.

I don't see how any of that makes the comparison "silly". It's not like we have so many instances of computer paradigms to go around comparing.

You conflate so many facets into an hopeless image. Yes, all research facilities are potential targets. Yes, it's wise to assume that no single one can realistically deflect a full frontal attack from a state agent. But each possibilit

Interesting view. It raises the question: What takes in each domain to be taken seriously? How do the prices of admission compare on each level (from deserving of attention to established theory)? Anyone knows of a cross disciplinary study

My take: Adding proportions is kinda "semantically incorrect". It's well defined as a value, it just doesn't mean what you think it means, akin to thinking that union of two sets is written A + B (which would be the set
