More recently than Adam's October 2017 video, he had another copyright strike for, presumably, showing a repeating clip of the Single Ladies music video without playing even one second of the music itself . He recreated the song wit

If you read the article, you'd discover that it's not unusually dense. The photographer in question, Edward Burtynsky, spent three days finding the right location. He rented a scissor lift and shot from several stories up, with

I've heavily typed on a Key1 and Key1 Black Edition since their respective launches and haven't had any hardware problems. Both phones have been very durable and CPU performance hasn't seemed to degrade over time.

It's been circulating in various forms since the late 90s, IIRC. Commonly referred to as the "Pan Docs." http://gbdev.gg8.se/wiki/articles/Pan_Docs

Every time someone resurfaces the Pan Docs in a new form, I'm reminded of how I haven't touched my Gameboy dev efforts[0] in months. As fun as it is to conquer the Z80, it's difficult to get motivated working in an ecosystem

kqr, there are a lot of usability problems that come from stretching columns across the screen. There's a thread talking around some of them here on this post: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19621284 My thinking

Excellent! I'm positive I saw your plugin while researching the design for my site. It looks like a great package of tools. In the end, I decided to stay away from Rails and use Pelican + Python3. I needed an excuse to brush up on my P

I've been thinking that through today, actually. Newspapers don't choose multi-column layouts because it's the easiest to read--it's to make the most of an expensive resource available in a fixed size. Besides that, imag

Gregory, your margin notes look great in the mobile view. I'm using mine as "frenetic" textual additions (thanks for the great description, HN commenter!), which would be too messy to inject straight into the content without

Nice! That does make for an extremely-classy table. My only suggestion is that, at 1080p, there's an eye-water 330px gap between the text in the 1st and 2nd columns in the first table. This makes it a bit difficult to tell if quinoa is

Thanks for correcting that omission. My favorite feature is the one-click deployments. Through the power of SSH keys, the site is deployed with a simple `make rsync_upload`. No Chef scripts, no AWS CodeDeploy pipeline, just plain ol' r

This is a solid point, thank you. I'll see if I can think of a better way of delineating the mobile margin notes. Maybe Stratechery or Wikipedia have good examples of this.

I'm still struggling to get the <blockquotes> to look right. There's not quite enough of an offset from the body text. Do you have any suggestions there? In regards to font sizes, there are 5: H1s, H2s, H3s, body text, and

Massive respect to the Netlify team. I played around with having my static site hosted by them (for free!) and got only a modicum of extra performance from a $5/mo Digital Ocean droplet. With this ngrok competitor making it easier to e

No worries! There's always room for improvement. Though my site now automatically swaps in [0] the correct typographic quotes (thanks again!), I still have to manually add <section>s and the HTML for the sidenotes, instead of usi

Thanks for pointing that out. I was under the impression that Pelican's Markdown parser automatically used typographic quotes vs straight quotes, but that's apparently not the case. Edit: Ah, it's an extension to Python-Markd

The semantics are only suggestions, not hard and fast rules. If you aren't adding top nav sections or site-wide footers, your current approach is fine. If you do want to experiment with those, you'll find the (correctly-constraine

After seeing Gwern's website[0], I immediately knew what design I wanted for my personal site [1]. Tufte's CSS package is much heavier than these three rules, but it achieves the same result: Content designed to maximize readabili
