Same. French here. I can't stand hearing these words anymore, when at the same time I read that the French intelligence services closed a 5-year deal with Palantir.

Maybe it's because I'm French and the author is American (I guess?), but this post made me anxious. Putting so many rules and so much science on something that should be fun and spontaneous feels so wrong to me. Maybe a cultural t

Maybe 10 years ago I discovered Stumble upon, a website which allowed you to randomly get a page on the internet based on your previous likes/dislikes and interests. I absolutely loved it. You could find some very niche pages. I guess

PHP already has a pretty good package manager. But it would be great indeed to have a tool to install different versions of the runtime, on top of a Ruff equivalent

Interesting that they always focus more on AI while their product is less and less usable. I want a usable and efficient pull request page, not useless AI features. Seems like the priorities are all wrong. The enshittification of GitHub is

GitHub, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram (on the web)... All these major websites are becoming incredibly hard to use. My intuition would be "SPA crap" but I'm pretty sure you can make great and snappy SPAs. What am I missing?

You can write it this way. The parameter name is arbitrary. And no, to my knowledge you can't access the var from the previous scope

They're not though. array_filter takes (arr, callback) https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.array-filter.php array_map takes (callback, arr) https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.

I'm quite surprised that the article doesn't mention Laravel. PHP as a language? Definitely getting better but still not great. Doesn't support async, the stdlib is awful, data structures are quite rudimentary (no tuple, no l

I have never said French was a standard regarding pizzas. Read my message again. I'm just saying that maybe the proportion of aficionados of pineapple pizzas varies from country to country.

It also probably depends on the country. As a French person I never met anyone who thought it was a good idea. I also don't think I have ever seen a pizza with pineapple in a good pizza restaurant. Only in bad fast food restaurants. I

Makes me think that I would love to have an AI tool that not only allows autocomplete but also provides suggestions while I write code. "Have you thought about using useCallback here?" "This feature seems already provided by

You might be surprised. I can assure you it happened. And my friend is a 35yo physiotherapist who uses a website on a daily basis to manage her appointments. I guess what was confusing to her was the fact that it was not just a "simple

Honestly, I never used an SPA because of transitions. I recently decided to use one because of the persistent state. Not sure how CSS solves this.

I come from a PHP and Python background. I can see how progressive addition of types has changed the way we deal with code. Working on a big old project without types is not even possible for me anymore. Refactoring things with types is alr

I honestly hate PWAs. Last time I tried it, I realized I couldn't open a link in a new tab. Some people tried to make me use the PWA instead of browsing the website, but to me, it just makes my life harder.

I remember when ChatGPT was released. I talked about it to a friend who is not technical. She said "oh wow, I really need to try it". She later said "I couldn't find the app in my AppStore". I kept saying they had a

I tried both and I respect different opinions about this. I feel like TS' type system makes me crazy because it's going too far. But no typing makes me anxious. I guess there is a sweet spot to find for me personally.

Am I the only one who never tried Elixir just because it has no strict typing? Seems very hard for me to go back to a language with dynamic typing. Maybe I'm just wrong and I should give it a try.

To use the "Eco" mode you need a smartphone and a router. This is beyond cynical.
