Netflix is by far one of the worst streaming services in terms of what they have, although they're still running a very slick interface, who cares if what it leads to is garbage? Even when you find something good, especially a series,

I couldn't agree more. I use a Boox e-reader, and I had no interest in using the Kindle app, so stripping the DRM (on books I'd purchased, for my own use only) was a selling point. Without that I'm just moving my business ove

Other than YouTube? No, I switched my search to Kagi and I don't even use Gmail for anonymous emails anymore. Even when Google makes a product that seems interesting, it's almost inevitable that they'll either enshittify it o

When you read the post and get all of the way to bottom, you'll discover that you're part of a whole family of people who fixated on one word, rather than the content. > Edit: I guess my tone-projection is off. A lot of people

I've purchased hundreds of books through the Kindle store specifically because of that functionality, and I've just moved my business over to Kobo. I doubt that I'm the only person to shrug and bail on Amazon based on this mo

That's true, but it's also the Adobe DRM which can be trivially stripped using Calibre, so it's not a big deal IMO.

I've switched from Amazon to Kobo (in terms of a store, I don't use either's devices). I tested last night and I was able to copy epubs purchased from Kobo wherever I wanted. They have all of what you just described. Like you

That's very fair, in any case I'm sorry to hear that you were so mistreated, I wish I could say that it surprised me. People love to blame the various mods, but in my opinion it was always the admins that were the problem. Of cour

I suspect that this will end up applying to 18+ Reddit, it would make them compliant with the latest "ID up" hotness, and create a much-needed revenue stream. I don't think it will work well, in fact I can't imagine many

As a percentage of GDP alright. Now how about absolute numbers, because pretending that doesn't matter isn't particularly helpful, and feels like playing with numbers rather than dealing with reality.

Of course, what we're seeing is careless and foolish, I'm not endorsing any of it. I am however somewhat enlightened by the consequences of that foolish endeavor.

I see that as different, it is first and foremost an American project, born from a conflict between superpowers. I don't think the same is true about global charity.

I don't think USAID is the core of US soft power, Hollywood is. Our tech industry is. Our food and our language and the way our culture seeps into everything is. If USAID and aid to places in much of Africa was our soft power, I'd

It's been interesting seeing Western European NGO's struggle to find funding without USAID as well. I don't like Trump, I don't like much of what he's doing, but this at least has been a bit of a wake-up call for me

Do you understand how me saying "Tyranny" and you responding "Duopoly" isn't really a conversation or even debate? We're literally talking about different things. edit Since this seems to need clarification: h

I didn't say that, I said that talking about tyranny in this context is divorced from reality, and it is. I'm not even engaging with the "duopoly" thing, I know how hopeless a conversation like that. I just wish that peo

Calling that tyranny really devalues the word, especially when you had to buy an Apple device to be "subjected" to it, and there are alternatives.
