I unfortunately got tired of those damn dialogs one day and ended up with a G+ profile. Their methods are getting more and more like dark patterns (just colorful ones). I deleted my G+ account and fortunately didn't lose my subscriptio

You're nitpicking, and doing it wrong. Inserting ads on your mail client is not the problem, it's how they target the advertise. Of course they inserted it into the mail to make it clearer, but obviously it's not literal. Kee

I'd say that's exactly what they want everyone to think. Of course we see more violations in china, but who's to say you don't have 10 times more of that from the US? Just because they don't do it to US citizens (in

Agreed. I see many people that aren't that good at anything concrete and just sell themselves as "good at building products". If an engineer is not qualified to build a software (the product), who is? I get that not everyone

I'd say without documentation any code loses quality. I'm not talking about giving a manual for every piece of code you write, but any code that will be used by others (specially in big companies) should be well documented. If goo

Even on Office, people use it because it's pretty much the only thing they can use. Not because it's a great product. You work on a company and they have office. You didn't choose, you can't change it. It's just the

I think on a large corporation like Microsoft, both your cases can happen at the same time. The OP wouldn't blatantly lie and I assume you are not lying too... This huge disparity between teams are normally a sign of very big manageme

I'd say that's implicit, if code that doesn't deliver business value (refactoring, documenting, etc.) is wasted, people won't do it.

I think these are completely intentional. Additional steps made for the few that use that stuff, and hiding out the complexity for the big majority that doesn't want that. I don't think they would ever create anything without a decent reaso

After switching from any kind of desktop to xmonad (or any decent tiling window manager, I assume) I can honestly say, I've never been more productive. Hackable, easy to use, and the main thing for me is the fact that it's fast and straight

Maybe you are, but in my experience 99.9% of the contractors of those places don't pay well because they don't have to. Most of the time there is someone more desperate that lowers the bid just to get the job. If everyone paid decently that

That's a wild guess and IMHO very wrong. I get that you may not have a lot of resources, but those places normally pay badly even for 3rd world countries. Saying they're all employed it's a rationalization people make to feel less guilty. P

Ever heard of a heart surgeon that can't pay his bills? Now have you heard of a developer that couldn't pay his bills? That's why he wouldn't want his daughter to know what he does.
