I feel like this is one of the things python got right. You can start off with plain old data: def Foo: def __init__(self, foo): self.foo=foo Use it in all the ways you like. If then later you discover a need fo

In my experience a lot of the difference in performance of Windows vs Linux in programs which are designed for Linux is in the file system. Linux is really good at handling a bazillion tiny files. Windows is really not. I'm sure that

I accidentally ended up in a church while the organist was practicing. It felt like the whole building shook, which is impressive in a 500 year old building with meter thick walls. I can totally see how people used to think pipe organs were

I don't think such a system does or can exist. e.g. nl-NL is distinct from nl-BE which is distinct from fr-BE. Using a country flag doesn't work if a country uses multiple languages. Languages themselves don't have icons to g

Another option is to have the client automatically reconnect. That way your backend can just drop the connection when it needs to, and the load balancing infra will make sure the reconnection ends up on a different server. Of course you do

Only just replaced my 1080 (non-ti) and it would run basically any game I threw at it very well. Only replaced it because it doesn't really do raytracing or TAA very well, and those are becoming more and more common.

You realize of course that if you organize a meetup you get to set the rules for said meetup? That's not a cult, that's normal-ass behavior. Usually it doesn't get spelled out quite this prominently, but it happens any time y

On a well designed track the flanges should not ever rub. Of course with light rail you'll sometimes run into a problem where a curve needs to be tighter than can be done without flange rubbing. The Amsterdam tramways have a couple pla

You can viably run git over sneakernet. Yes if you decide to use a specific communication service, that service needs to be up, but git itself is entirely agnostic.

The key to this mechanism is that the stepping of the minute hand is what unlocks the second hand. Pretty clever low-tech way to keep a LOT of clocks in really close sync. Dutch train stations used to have these too, I loved to watch them i

A nozzle clog won't set a 3d printer on fire either. It'll make a good mess of the hot-end. There'll be a bunch of charred filament, and heat creep will clog the nozzle nicely. It won't however magically get any hotter t
