Perhaps they should have included a nuclear engineer on the team, who could have told them to use a breeder reactor to process the 'waste' into useful energy so that the remainder would only be dangerous for a few hundred years instead of 1

I'm curious to hear what developers think of this development approach; in particular the idea of creating a separate version control branch for every ticket. My company has creates around 1000 tickets per month; at least half of which are

This makes a lot of sense; bikes have a lot less extraneous weight to carry around than cars do, so it should be a lot easier to get a good milage/performance combo out of an electric engine than with a car. There's less room for the engine

I think the point here is that i4i wanted to keep using it, but couldn't because Microsoft took everything they had and built it into Word for free. They destroyed i4i's business model (which happens sometimes) by stealing their design (whi

I was once waiting for my flight and watching the activity out on the tarmac. A luggage cart dropped someone's suitcase, and it sat out there for at least an hour while the carts drove back and forth around it. Eventually, someone picked it

Today's "younger individuals" who are less set in their ways used to be the old folks, back when life spans were much shorter. I think if life spans extended to 200, someone in their 50s would be considered to be at their peak of productivi

I disagree. If you know that something is true, but can't really prove that it is true, you can still use the assumed truth to guide you. For example, I believe that Barak Obama is an honorable man. I can't prove it, but I believe it strong

It's a local-market vs extended-market issue. Money is the medium of trade; it has to circulate or trade stops. If you have a local market, the people producing products, and getting paid to produce the products, are also buying the product

I think the coolest of these is the Apollo 14 image with the footprint trail. Sure, after 30 years we'd expect the landers to still be there, but now we know that the footprints and other scuff marks are still there too. Neat.

I find one of the biggest challenges, and best skills to develop, is getting the customer to describe the problem they're trying to solve rather than the solution they think they need. My job, as a Software Engineer, is to figure out the be

Perhaps the design should be "everything is a Resource" (ala REST) rather than "everything is an Object". The beneficial aspect of "everything is a File" is the uniform interface: you can read a file, write to a file, seek to a particular p

If we make something and sell it overseas, it brings wealth into the country. That's good for us. It's the opposite of what we've been doing: importing massive amounts of cheap products, sending all of our wealth overseas to other countries

I also recommend "Javascript: The Good Parts". It and the jQuery library can teach you a lot about how Javascript is really a functional language with more in common with Lisp than with C++ or Java. A second excellent book is "Higher Order
