Cool, thank you for the details. None of their marketing or FAQs for Glacier mention that getting the data back means going to S3 first and then paying S3's outgoing bandwidth costs. As deceptive as I expected. I'll check out Goog

I'm trying to figure out the costs. To back up my NAS at full capacity, I need 10TB of storage. Using S3 Glacier Deep Archive, that seems to cost $10/month per full backup image I keep. That's not bad. What's confusing i

That, and "it suites my needs" makes me reluctant to just install and run this software without carefully examining the source code first, and maybe building/running from source myself.

There's no such thing as "physics defying". There's physics we understand, and physics we don't understand. The job of physicists is to change the latter into the former. Whatever these phenomena are, sharing all of

Replace Rails and similar server-side frameworks with CGI scripts, and you're done. Every request is a new process with its own memory space. Yes, performance is an issue with that old approach. Around the turn of the century I was res

Absolutely nothing in that blog post applied to what I intended, because I did not say that a generic method that looks up implementations in a registry should be used. My static method would be explicitly coded to return a particular imple

The way to manage this without DI would be a static method someplace (Startup.cs or elsewhere) which creates the new MyService, stores it, and returns a reference. Then any controllers or pages that need the reference call the static method

I think most people would disagree with your definition of "quite simple". Going from three meals a day to a 16:8 eating pattern (16 hrs fasting, 8 hrs eating window) isn't too bad. It's basically skipping breakfast. Sho

I spent a bit more than half of my professional career developing in Perl, on a large web application implemented across 100+ modules. All of my work was done through a terminal connected to a remote server, using vim. When I had to rename

One way would be to allow companies to pay employee's healthcare premiums on the employee's behalf. That's almost like the current system, but still decoupled: 1. Employee buys their own plan from healthcare.gov. 2. Employe

I believe a workable solution for this would involve: 1. Pharmas separate drug R&D from manufacturing and sales. 2. R&D companies submit proposals to the FDA for new drugs they want to develop. The FDA can also send out RFPs for dru
