Keeping bean counters shouldn’t be the goal, but everyone does like to keep eating. What do you suggest for keeping the business healthy while not making things terrible?

If everyone had to suffer everything that they inflicted on others, we’d soon live in a near utopia. One can dream...

When I was a kid the local 7-Eleven installed outside lights that made your skin have a slight greenish hue and which made acne stand out. Great way to get rid of loitering teens without any harm.

Unless the customers would have come to your site directly and maybe visited your restaurant. This smells a lot like affiliate code stuffing that some shady websites and toolbars do.

I like your definitions but it seems [buying] stock that pays no dividend (despite the business behind it) is still speculation. At best you can hope it will pay a dividend some day, which is speculation.

This might be a good thing for the environment, but fixing “boring” is very questionable in my opinion. Now you’ll simply have driveways that are 2-4x wider than before (which also means more rain run-off) and less lawn. That sounds borin

What happens when you hit the maximum number of ad groups that Google allows per campaign. Isn’t it something like 50 or 100?

OK, let's test this. This site banning pro-abortion would be OK? My point is the left is fine banning the right on moral grounds, but if the right bans the left then it's bigotry, free speech suppression, and a different set of

Are you referring to Guantanamo that existed under Obama? Easy to spin things both ways. Trump is an idiot but this is just another form of bigotry if all politics aren’t banned.

I remember HN getting up in arms about free speech when porn was banned from some sites, and a few years earlier when rape fantasy was banned from another (sorry, poor memory so I don’t remember more details). But banning pro-Trump is fine

I highly suggest reading In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Mate(?). Fantastic eye-opening book. Addiction is very often about past trauma, and as few have any control over that, it might as well be considered the “addictive brain” in

> individual engineers who make ones that aren't Please don’t forget those engineers’ management chain. In my experience, it’s usually business people trying to change things for profit’s sake, not the engineers.

I bet you’re right. I find a lot of people that take a position with just a cursory overview, and that never go deep to see what that position really implies. It’s hard work and takes time.

I think his point is just because we got along without it is not a good reason to abandon something. But yeah, too much waste all around, including plastics

My guess is there are many that did porn when they were younger (and foolish?) but have since moved on with life and might want to forget that episode or their life. So having it resurface 10 years later would be very uncomfortable.

I suspect the person that stays up with the book will only get that involved once or twice a month. But with gaming it could easily be every night. So there is a degree of effect that has to be considered.

I’ve heard that termed as “recreationally outraged” and find it fits quite well in many cases (where those doing it don’t take the time to investigate before getting riled up).

Aren’t the first and third the same thing - we didn’t measure it all? To just invent something that can’t be explained to make us feel better sounds a whole lot like religion. [edit] Also, thank you for your reply. It helps

This has always felt a little wrong to my layman mind. It’s like saying 4+2=7. Oh it doesn’t match? Well, invent some magic stuff to fix the difference (4+2+magic=7) so we don’t have to change what we believe. I guess I don’t understand

Google is OK with it because they do it to small spenders. They have human account managers and a very visible phone number if you spend enough. Not saying I agree with it, but it makes sense.

They use Bing ads. It’s really unfortunate - I’d love to help them and advertise with them, but 99% of my ads will show on Bing and its other properties, which is not what I want to support.
