And get a public figure/politician to drone on and on about it (whether they believe it or not) is an excellent way to fire up a base and get the base to stop thinking things through as thoroughly. That’s the thing that scares me - co

I’d say 50% of the time CoPilot suggests things that are not helpful, 40% of the time it saves me some typing, and 10% of the time it reads my mind and fills out a large section of code for me perfectly (using all my idioms, naming, code “a

That’s great, but given that 99.99999999% of the rest of won’t go to those lengths, you might find you’re a bit lonely when we all get assimilated into the borg.

If you don’t understand the code well enough to annotate it, it seems hard to believe you’d able to rewrite it and end up with the same functionality (same processing rules, accepts identical input, produces identical output, etc).

And then they came for the guns owned by 5 year olds, and I didn’t speak up… Then they came for the huge environment polluters, and I didn’t speak up… Somethings really are dangerous and should be regulated.

I think my 25 year old son had bought into the same thought pattern. I’m trying to help, but parents are often thought to be clueless. Having said that, I’ve found FOMO hitting me hard when looking at Facebook posts, so I’ve stopped lookin

I was surprised to discover how far IBM is in the AI game. Their penetration into _enterprises_ is way ahead of all the other big names. And their approach seems really well thought out. Do some web searches for recent articles about wha

700 instead of 1000 would be “sub optimal” but better than 0. At least that’s what I think the above poster was trying to say.

I suspect staying inside, relatively inactive, surrounded by plastics, foam in furniture, paint, and other chemicals is probably worse, but it’s just a hunch. In the end, none of us get out of here alive.

Thank you for the explanation - I appreciate it. But I still don’t understand - if just a single droplet can do kill, and half of American’s probably drank some, why aren’t we dropping dead from droplets getting into our nose during shower

I don’t get it. Doesn’t this “dangerous” tap water get in our eyes, mouths, nostrils (at least as steam or spray) every single day when we shower? I’m having a hard time getting too worried about this.

Yes, exactly! “Our math doesn’t work unless we invent something to make up the difference”. Feels very much like the Ether scientists believed in earlier. Of course, it might really be, but it feels suspect.

Those of us in our 50’s entered the market when outsourcing was the new buzzword, and “ALL tech jobs will get sent to India!”. There is always fear, there are always challenges and threats, and yet the world keeps spinning, and those who k

Add to that our much improved relative standard of living (even lower classes are much better off than their long ago counter parts), and it’s clear we’re working less for what we get.

Honest question: when the government gives back that $60B, and the thousands of other billions, where do they get THAT money from, since the original $60B is surely long gone. I assume you’ll say from other money it collects from new sales

The movie “Ready Player One”, despite trying to end on a forced positive note, was/is prophetic. It was a very sad and disconnected world there, and we’re slowly moving that way here.
