I just installed Xubuntu on a new laptop. I was blown away at how beautiful it looks in comparison with Ubuntu. I'm very glad to see Ubuntu get over it's fetish for its old ugly color scheme.

Thanks I was hoping someone would say this. There is a general lack of knowledge about how android handles processes. I've seen it all over the place and commonly from android users who try and get "auto-kill" apps to save power.

What if instead of a practical class as the intro we had a theoretical class. Things like Boolean logic, what a Turing machine is, the logic behind a stack, queue and so on. Teach the ideas behind computers without focusing on the practical

My old laptop died so I've been planning/saving to get a new one recently. This could serve a lot of the use of a replacement laptop, but it is still heavily limited. So no I'm not going to buy an encumbered device when it costs half of wha

No you do it on the browser level. Crome for example when you mistype a domain gives you a 404 page combined with a google search.

I'm not sure how you process a video "102%", seems like that might be a bug. Other than that seems like it could be pretty useful.

Those that are curious "gq" does the same thing on vim. Use ":set tw=<number of columns>" to tell vim the maximum number of columns (80 by default)

It has nothing to do with snobbery it has to do with getting people interested. My little sister will be more likely to keep programming if she can build a website in as little time as possible. Once she has done that she will slowly expand

As someone who actually uses Quickbasic I strongly disagree. (We use quickbasic to deal with custom counters and data manipulation by project. Data processing for political surveys.) Quickbasic made sense back in the day where you had limit

This is standard fare for jobs in the video game industry. The only company that I've heard of that doesn't do this sorta of crap is valve where it is limited to about two months before release (The valve information is 2nd hand). I know wh

You mention specifically that it this is true for compilers. What about smaller applications. From my browsing of the FreeBSD tree most programs that have a syntax use yacc/lex to parse the input. Awk for example, among others. As you are m

I never seemed to understand cream. The idea is to take vim and basically castrate it by getting rid of the standard keybindings and ways of doing things to make it 'easier' for non-vim users. It even appears they got rid of modal-editing.

You missed his statement about it being embedded into other programs. You see when you embedded a gpl scripting language into a larger program the entire program becomes gpl. This makes it a very bad embeddable program.
