The Huawei P60 Pro did not advertise its 5G capability, even inside China. It's basically an Easter egg: there's no 5G icon in the UI, but when you run a network speed test, you realize that the phone is connecting to 5G.

The claim was made that LLMs just parrot back what they've seen in the training data. They clearly go far beyond this and generate completely novel ideas that are not in the training data. I can give ChatGPT extremely specific and weir

Then your definition of understanding is meaningless. If a physical system is able to accurately simulate understanding, it understands.

In order to do that effectively, an LLM has to itself have understanding. At a certain point, we end up in a metaphysical argument about whether a machine that is capable of responding as if it had understanding actually does have understan

It depends on which products we're talking about. China now is like Japan was in the 1970s-80s. Japan had a reputation for making cheap, shoddy products, but it was actually rapidly moving up in quality.

Tesla has a P/E ratio of 45, vs. 17 for BYD. A lot of Tesla's value is based on hype and expectations, not on its current business.

by DiogenesKynikos 3y ago
That's because Tesla's stock is overvalued. Tesla's revenue is only 60% higher than that of BYD Automotive.

by DiogenesKynikos 3y ago
I think this is giving short shrift to BYD's role in advancing battery technology, which is key to electric vehicles. In that sense, BYD is more innovative than Tesla.
