I have capslock as control. My work computer has the ESC key, but it's out of reach. My ipad keyboard has no escape, so I've been training myself to use ctrl-[. Works ok, I don't really notice the difference anymore.

I wonder if the microwave based "acoustic attacks" in cuba were simply their attempt at powering such a bug.

Wow, ok. Never heard of g in that sense. I work in aerospace, so that is probably why.

Do they spec the force in newtons? Without mass, g’s don’t really say much except as maybe a relative measure between things of the same mass.

I feel like there is another aspect that is helpful. It's another way to partition an application into surmountable "bite size" chunks. There are plenty of other ways to do this, but if this is what helps you think about th

I suppose "dead weight" can be redeemable, however I would say that if you are "dead weight" you probably have the wrong job, and are very likely better off finding something different. As we get older, that's less

Agree, this is my approach. Also, I do checks on the data structure, less on how they are used. So if a function expects a certain structure I’ll spec that. But I don’t do checks on getter setter type operations.

I don't understand this comment. I spec types, and then I spec functions that need that type. But not all the function, just the heavy use ones. I usually don't instrument the spec'd functions unless I'm actively debugg

"It's extraordinarily hard to build a community around a fork" This may sound snarky, but I mean it earnestly: It's extraordinarily hard to build a community. Period.

clojure has pattern matching too. As a library. Much of the interesting functionality of clojure comes from libraries. (core.async, core.spec, core.match, etc..) The matching library is good. I wouldn't use it in a tight performance

Still reading your comment, but after the first paragraph, I would kindly suggest looking at clojure.spec. It's helped me immensely in similar problems.

I mainly program in clojure. The experience is just too good to be swayed by the bad points. That said, I wrote a moderately complex program recently where having dynamic types was a hindrance. I had to do mental book keeping in order to

I have not spent much time studying basic income, but I'm sure the topic of inflation must be addressed. What's the current thinking on basic income having an effect on inflation?

I tried this for a while after a goof up. However because my dev environments more or less looked like default, if I forgot to setup a new production server to change the color, I'd mistake it for local at some point. So I change my d

That makes no sense. There is a segment of the population that is physically one gender but feels they are actually the other. If we weren't that different, nobody would go through the massive physical alteration. The size of the popu

Imagine graph paper with the length of the side of a square being the feature size. 3nm. Where you shade in represents the metalization. Now imagine you have a design rule that says a metalization trace must be no less than 3 squares wid

I don't think it's that bad. Board design is, but if you are working with some standard board, say from Opal Kelly (no affiliation), then you don't have to worry about that. But what about the DRM with HDMI? I have no idea
