The amount of energy consumed is a function of the price of the crypto. The more people who use Bitcoin the higher the demand (and hence price) for Bitcoin becomes, making it financially viable to pump even more computing power into mining

So you would rather have your own compensation package be lower if it ensures that your coworkers packages are also low?

The fiat system is used by the entire global economy, bitcoin uses more Energy than my country (Ireland) and probably couldn't serve the needs of a country 5% its size.

You can't make the current system better, its designed to be as wasteful as possible. If I somehow managed to implement something that made the hashing use half as much electricity, it wouldn't result in any reduction of power usa

That's a positive. You can bash away at whatever you want to do, make all the breaking changes you like without worrying about who gets affected. MIT/BSD are free as in free tech support.

Honestly for a lot of people they use JSON because thats what they have always used; XMLs heyday was like 15 years ago, you could be a very senior engineer now and have never touched XML.

Honestly, I think a big reason is that Stack Overflow didn't exist at XMLs peak, so you had people generating XML by concatenation, to predictably disastrous results. One of the first XSLT transforms I was ever given to maintain genera

Its already here with some stuff, look at the sheer amount of cruft built into web browsers. You can't break existing sites, allegedly, but that just means that some things are set in stone never to be fixed. In the year 2323, browsers
