If you can work remotely, I’d recommend it. I did that in summer 2018 and I don’t regret it. Also, it seems that the value of property in the cities adjacent to the focal points of the Bay Area is going up. The value of my house went up 7%

I enjoy looking at Zillow data and everything in the range I am looking at is racing back to 2018 prices, mainly driven by foreclosures. I thought about investing, but it seems that mortgage lenders now expect a 40% down deposit on the prop

The scrutiny this release is going through makes me confident that the Redis Labs team will deliver in the end. Also, if you are looking for a linearly scalable distributed pub-sub with strong guarantees around consensus and message persist

The RTB protocol describes the message that goes along with each bid request. So that is the information that all third parties participating in the auction receive as long as they are listening. To participate in the auction you don't

In the Ad Exchange, Google surfaces the full url, geo, and all browser identifier information under the RTB protocol. When tracked through apps, Google is equally open. Apple tries its best to combat tracking, but most apps will still do th

I and any other third party can buy their way into the google Ad Exchange, but nobody can buy their way into iCloud's servers; for example, China had to ask Apple to create a segregated iCloud to support iOS in China. It is possible th

Apple doesn't surface the information they collect to third parties. If you are talking about in app advertising tracking, I reset my tracking advertiser ID pretty often too.

Can you provide a link? Is this the cut they take for their App Store? If so, that isn't even in the same scale of selling your browsing history. For example, if I knew your cookie, and had access to the Google Ad Exchange, I could get

I stick with Apple for the privacy. There are features on Android I wish to use, but I can’t bring myself to use an Android phone or putting the effort of cleaning it from all of Google’s trackers.

I do it for the privacy. Google auctions user data to third parties for micro dollars on their ad exchange. https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en... Apple has no such business.

There is nothing elitist about it. I am also not knowledgeable of medicine or law, and I ask friends or family for advice. However, trying to convince people that “free” is not free is a very hard argument to have. I have used this video in

So much this. The common individual doesn't understand the power that data gives to marketing and propaganda machines. Moreover, the ilusion of services being "free" gives these platforms an insane competitive advantage.

I think this makes sense, and it is indeed a major contributing factor to the UX. The hunger for data from all the other players essentially hampered the product adoption.

There is a couple things I see in this post that I wouldn’t do at all, and I maintain a couple services with orders of magnitude higher QPS. I feel that replacing Node.js with any compiled language would have had the same positive effect.
