You might have your opinion, but this article is a re-iteration of something that has been pretty much established by people who study verbal and non-verbal communication (professionally). You might say this has cultural origins in 'Ru

As a Russian-American, I completely agree. Smiling has different semantics in West and in Russia. On the other hand, I don't mind the 'fake' customer service. I don't want people to be sincerely unhappy to do something f

I have no idea if you're right or not, but I really hate how people downmod on HN instead of stating their disagreements.

I am using RCPP for interfacing, didn't see anything automatic for conversion though, it's just an interface.

Good thing is that python is pretty ubiquitous, as is virtual env :)

I already use python, so having it in same codebase would be perfect. However, I have some code in R that is pretty important, so I have to include that as well with an application (model).

Are there any tools to convert R to JS or Python, or... any other common language that doesn't require a 60mb runtime distribution?

I maintain an early 2000's php website that is pretty functional and has a lot of features, but uses the classic spaghetti code. I can't exactly just switch to PDO without considerable time investment, and otherwise things are wor

Thank you, I'm actually prepared to spend a lot more than a few hours. I wish this was integrated in Computer Science programs. Not being able to objectively justify some of my choices has been pretty traumatic and your list nicely sum

Ok, so as someone who has used the "design perspective" to avoid verbalizing something I simply understood to be true intuitively, what are good resources for understanding the theory and explaining UX choices?

That's exactly my point. Only the mobile OS knows the detailed knowledge of device pixels, not a web developer. Raster graphics can utilize GPU accelerated filtering. Sharp graphics should be vector with blocky or any other kind of &#x

What about the fact that we have dpi's going from 250 to 450, everywhere in between? We have color temperature problems, we have totally different screen aspects sizes. Between all the things we can't control, why is it still a go

But pixels are not perfectly square, and not visible on >300 ppi devices? I think we should accept that you can't rely on pixels anymore, and it's a good thing, which will let us move on to better display technologies and bette
