I don't know anyone saying Apple's success is rooted in any one thing. However, IOKit is very important, "common code for device drivers, this framework also provides power management, driver stacking, automatic configuration

You are right. An actual crash in kext causes kernel panic. I think I read that this is was possible, but I can't find how, and when, right now. The common thing that I'm thinking of is just voluntary error (exception) handling in

It's a huge effort worth that seems to be paying off quite handily. XNU seems like a competitive edge over the monolith FreeBSD, as far as desktop and mobile OS is concerned. FreeBSD has plenty of cool stuff, but in a completely differ

They're isolated enough that drivers can crash and just be reloaded, without a kernel panic.

That's weird, I've been using MacBook Air 11 for three years and remember hitting the power button only once by accident. I also have pretty big hands and fingers.

Following this logic, every language is Perl with a bit of this or that. Perl was one of the first of the kind, but people saw obvious problems with it and so they innovated with 'little nicer syntax' or 'little better object

I hate to be that guy, but all it says is that 'more progress has been made on the NumPy compatibility front'. Progress is great, but am I missing something news worthy here? Is this a milestone when I can run my numpy 1.4 compati

I tried to use pyjamas and it was just almost impossible... It seems to be strictly for GWT (widgets, rpc) style sites. No easy way to build some small python written library or integrate with other pure JS libraries from what I could tell

Wow, if they replace Windows Media Player with it, and embrace shoutcast, that would be great. But probably not going to happen, so I wonder what they're thinking.
