He also mentioned pandas, which isn't that old. So, it's probably hyperbole.

messages are probably much smaller, but more numerous and latency has to be 'realtime', but also client-server-client juggling. so, to me this means they need to respond faster, more often, and deal with more sharing than a websit

I'm not sure what he's talking about, but I haven't found a nicer debugger (for every language it handles) anywhere else.

Yeah, when it's something like hygiene or nuclear reactor maintenance. When it's something like customer service, wisdom of the crowds is what counts.

The article has nothing to do with company-vs-regulated marketplace. It has to do with how horrible the government ideas were so far. If the city of Nevada wrote an iPhone app for rating cabs and the cabs had to display their stars, it woul

I can't use Python on .NET, I use it with numpy and the rest of the great native ecosystem. There are great ORMs, but I also really like LINQ.

would be awesome if any of the dotnet open sourcing would allow to port linq to python. i would use it in a hearbeat.

It was very much an exploration project, so there isn't a single source. I used https://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gentoo-alt/prefix/techdocs.xm... and SUA Community forum that is down now, on some of t

POSIX was not. It's call SUA and I still enable it, and on w7 run Gentoo bootstrap under it. It works well enough and I even see sshd run as a service process.

In this case my definition of a point is a single remote to github.com/<project> in all the OSS projects .git/config A single issue tracker with hundreds of issues for all these projects. A single database of commiter permis

I really like bitbucket. They don't have as many features, but free private repos, unlimited academic repos, means I'm not actually a GitHub user, except for the OSS projects that insist on GitHub.

I don't think it's paranoia. I think it factually is a single point of failure, which is a bad thing(tm). And GMail is a single point of failure for my (and my companies) e-mail, and that bothers me too, despite the fact that I&#x

I did learn a lot, thanks for commenting. It also seems like you agree with the premise of the article that there is confusing stuff in, what you called 'informal' spec, but explained why. So, thanks again.

I really have no idea why someone would downvote your honest answer.... This is getting out of hand. Anyway, in my experience it's been about 50-70% worse battery life on ubuntu compared to OSX. Which, as you point out, is no issue if

They might have contributed the most over time, but we probably don't disagree who was more important to the whole WebKit party getting going.

Android sadly is not OSS, just like OSX isn't, even though it's obviously based on it. Chromium was V8 and WebKit, and so depended on WebKit. The rest are obviously not fundamental pieces of technology.

WebKit, llvm, are pretty important in that they altered the fundamental of present day by being so openly used. It's apples ehm to oranges at that level, but what has Google contributes of the likes?

I still use Windows SUA for my unix needs on Windows. It allows me to do most things and provides real POSIX (except fork), but stuff like sensitive filenames and unix style permissions actually work with NTFS. OpenSSH runs as a real servic

I have only had to use C for a small amount of work over the years, so I have a naive question. This seems like something very essential, why is it that this function took more than 30 years to add?

I would also be very interested in how this kind of a breakdown occurs. It is not uncommon I have to store arbitrary structure, and if there is a better way than a blob, which can be abstracted away by an app, that would be quite useful on
