That's ridiculous. Perhaps you can find in a few minutes, but I know plenty of people stuck in jobs they hate but can't find anything better. They are not quitting, and they can't move, because they have people that depend on

Really? This is a greedy policy, not an engineering decision. How many engineers have managers they disagree with? I'm sure you've always quit every company in such a situation?

I just got a 4K 27inch monitor and it worked great on windows 10 125% scaling, using hdmi. Then, I actually had to use the macbook for work, and it didn't get past your step 1. There is no way to alter the sizes of things, its either 1

Why is it such a 'one vs other' argument? This is like arguing against levels of APIs, a completely moot argument without proper context for usage.'Wrapping' doesn't prohibit you to go 'lower' if you want.

Does this mean ext4 is bugged too? We many filesystems with this bug, and we lived with this bug for a while. Anyway, I don't disagree on the technical cost/benefit analysis, but still, unfair.

You say that as if bit rot is the black plague of data storage. In the past 20 years I have encountered 'bit rot' with NTFS... not once. I have encountered bad blocks and replaced drives once in a while by monitoring SMART status,

In the past two years, I remember they have done scheduled infrastructure maintenance twice and unscheduled interruption for a few hours. So, no, it's not 100%. But, AWS has also had some interruptions. From personal experience, this H

Yes, I found a pretty legit article actually naming researchers and having better pictures, but it says 30 000 years. Says the paper about this is published in presumably Russian journal 'Doklady Biological Sciences' and there wer

Really? Somehow that 'only' has included every LCD monitor I've used for more than a decade. Windows AA is more aggressive, but it is still a huge improvement over the jagged over-hinted font rendering you get without ClearTy

Why is it incredibly ugly when it actually conveys the explicit logic of that which is happening? Can the logic be simplified? Are there any unnecessary characters? I don't see that. This is why I like Python, it's easy to read, a

Ok, thanks for a more informative reply, I didn't know about how some of the interop between JavaScript and native broke the native bits. That's good to know. Still though, this is a subset of native functionality. It sounds like

I'm not sure why it would, I'm not doing anything outside of UI logic and interfacing with web services, so it's almost like all other React.js web development for me. Perhaps that's the sweet spot.

I think it's an eye grabbing title, but not really honest, as it changes from 'beauty is bad' to 'why has it failed us'. It's a question worth asking, because obviously answering it would be progress. But, I do

It's also kind of pathological when someone focuses on just one technical aspect of software, like performance, or security, completely unable to reason within a large context of people doing things for other people.

That is not how high the cinema ever gets. The focus plane never completely aligns, the backgrounds shift, the projector vibrates and its lenses have edge artifacts. The scanable 16k film would look way better in Oculus VR than reprojected.

Because the types of moments or compositions that Instagram chooses to focus on are low resolution. 50mp is great for a large print, and Hasselblad sharpness, and 10 lights. But Instagram chooses to offer noise and color filter to everyone
