It's what I'm doing right now: I started a PhD in computer security after 7 years working as a software engineer in the industry. All of that in Europe. The answer to your questions is -of course- it depends. As somebody said in t

Every country's law is a bit different in that regard, but mostly : exactly like how the United States Supreme Court defines obscenity [1]. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_know_it_when_I_see_it

Of course. But free speech is not absolute, even in USA (libel laws and all that). What I find interesting is how the threshold between the freedom of speech and the freedom of others people is set differently between US and most of Europe.

Not pedantic, thank you for this info. I was under the impression this tariff existed because of the trade wars. The bad news is that it is less likely to be removed once Trump is out of office :-(

The pricing is more complicated than that. There is no way to buy a Model 3 at 35K$ in Europe. In France for instance, the minimum price is a whopping 48K€. Source : I wanted to buy a Model 3 in France. - 35K$ is actually 39K$, excluding

I was actually surprised by your choice of xkcd, even if it is a fun one. For me the most relevant would have been 1266 - 'Halting problem' : https://xkcd.com/1266/ which is one of my all time favorite.

I agree with you. However this claim could be true in the future if/when Encrypted SNI (ESNI) for TLS 1.3 is deployed. Although ESNI is at the draft stage [1] and to the best of my knowledge is not at a deployable stage yet. However it

Interesting article. I enjoyed it. I have two thoughts. ==== 1. Regarding the benchmark itself, I wonder out loud if CPU caching could have a meaningful alter on the results. The article says : > I randomly generate 4000 spheres, capsule

As I said, the trial is not about these suicides, but about a company-wide harassement policy. I meant it as " alleged side-effect".

The suicide spike at Orange / France Telecom took place from 2007 to 2009. I happened to work there fresh out of school from 2010 until 2012, just in the aftermath of the suicide wave, which we discussed a lot with colleagues at the ti

"The future is already here — it's just not very evenly distributed." You're right that open source had been a thing for quite some time in 1998. GNU was started in 1983 after all. But I respectfully disagree that open s

One could argue that 20 years ago there was little to no reputation (good or bad) for most open-source software, and that made using open-source software much more dangerous : it was more difficult to separate the good apples from the bad o

I do these kind of activities, but mostly divided in 5 to 15mn chunks. (Notably, my commute to work is a mere 10mn walk and I have a toddler child at home requiring frequent attention) I would have trouble dividing a 40mn podcast into five
