I was just talking about this today. There was a political comedy TV show here in Oz 'Shaun Micallefs : Mad as Hell'. I cannot remember the details exactly but the general idea was something like this. There was a dinner party wit

Exactly. My (mild) fear it that we ignore those kinds of issues and they blow back on us to start doing real harm to the overall system. To ignore the externalities like running up a credit card. As to the second point, this is what empires

There is a lot to be said for luck. Bill Gate said it himself, there where other folks that had much better technology but the luck just worked in Microsoft's favor. That and a lot of anti-competitive behavior. A bit the same with Appl

At least by the time it came to the G4 Cube, they had at least adjusted the clock speeds to stop a repeat of this. I used to have a Dual G5 PowerMac and when you have that thing going at full speed, it was LOUD! I suspect that absolutely bu

My favorite shrooms story is from reddit. Someone when taking schrooms would always "talk to God" and would get answers but they could never remember them the next day. So one day they ensured they had a notepad around to write do

I have never had an issue with them. That said I typically go mid range on cards so they are usually hardened architecture due to a year or two of being in the high end.

Thanks for the additional context. Generally, the opposite of one bad idea is usually another bad idea. Too much is bad, too little is bad - the middle ground is ideal. For example - Too much water is drowning, doesn't mean we should a

Also the Chinese saying that goes "Wealth does not last beyond three generations". There are exceptions to this rule but it is fairly robust. Part of it is wealth becoming diluted with offspring and secondly being raised in wealth

As an aside, I have seen some folks get incredible boot times simply by eliminating all devices wait times or loading things concurrently. Looking at game consoles is a good example of cold booting speeds but even they are much slower than

So far the core idea is a sort of constitutional foundation to try and ensure it doesn't get absorbed into that think. Mind you, that was Mozilla 20 years ago. Short term, deshittify Firefox. Mid term move to some like Lady bird. Long

This is where ideals meet ugly reality. Most people cherish convenience over everything else up until the externalities cannot be ignored. Still a long way to go if that is to happen on the web.
