In my experience, that is the unusual case, not the ordinary case. Further, when that would happen, it is typically obvious that some bigger change has occurred which required the automated procedure to be updated and tested.

I used Pascal for the 80's and part of the 90's. Currently use Java. I almost tried Delphi, but my shop moved on to something else between Pascal and Java.

Yes. But having the compiler enforce it is your first line of defense. If it doesn't compile, you know there is an actual problem. In modern IDEs, you see these compile errors as quickly as you type them.

Isn't RAID a way of storing all of the zero bits on one drive, and all the one bits on the other drive? That makes replacement of a bad drive much easier.

If you upgrade, jump directly to Java 11. That may or may not be easy. But it was easy for me. After that there was no effort to upgrade to all subsequent versions, to this point.

Even with those restrictions, it might be useful. Just as J2ME was useful. Write the performance critical parts in this restricted subset to leverage the hardware capability. Write the rest of the application in ordinary JVM languages.
