I live near Zurich but don't perceive the rules to be anywhere near as strict as you described, and would certainly not talk about "being told what to do" by the state. In Singapur, there are lots of laws unimaginable in Switzerland (for ex

I just feel as if the only justification for this new round of founding MG brings to the table, is that a) they will be able to cut back spending (=profit) and b) Google and Facebook are producing similar products, so it must be something g

> Nokia tried negotiating with Google and Google was arrogant. I can't help but suspect Microsoft needed Nokia more than Google (read: was willing to pay more for the deal), which was what caused the partnership.

Unless I'm much mistaken Chrome is the most secure browser out there, so it makes in a video from Google about security imho.

"The only way to successfully switch to renewable energy is by making renewable energy cheaper than coal or nuclear." I wouldn't be sure about that. Imho another way is to let the government offer incentives or just plain ban certain types

Android as an OS is open source, the Android Market isn't. The market is completely controlled by Google, and since you can still install .apk files without using the Market I don't think this is such a great deal as Engadget paints it to b

Since I'm new here, I'd like to ask a question that's been bothering me for some time: Do we upvote comments we agree with, or comments we think are worth reading? In my case, those aren't always the same, so I'd like to know how you guys h

As long as people can't game HN points, I don't think there's a problem with people trying to get their ads on front page - Only if enough people thought the content was worth looking at the ads it gets upvoted, so the quality stays good. (

Just concerning the first 2 points: 1. "Attacking the overlord" - People bash Google all day, every day; for privacy reasons and what have you. Seeing as Facebook is Google's biggest competitor and vice-versa, attacking Google doesn't seem

I doubt Google envisions this as the "future of computing", but just the logical step following more and more people using their laptop almost solely for browsing. For those, never having to worry about viruses, boot-up time, losing data or

Well, since the whole point of the Chromebook is having (only) the web, needing internet connection might really have seemed obvious to some Google employee. I don't find it condescending.

Yes. But I'd donate half of it to starving African children or other people (more than could be killed with my bomb) in desperate need. Besides, a person who designs a weapon isn't really responsible for what happens when someone uses it to

I think Google receives around 20000 resumes per day. If you've got that kind of interest (and what I've heard, justified interest) you'll have to turn most people down (ie. >99%). I don't have inside knowledge about the Google hiring p

You can afford not to limit users to 500 because no-one cares about gaming your system. Spammers are where the traffic is, so Google can't do that. But 500 sites are more than sufficient for me..

-1 to this article. Google isn't blocking anything. No censorship, they're just not helping you get to presumably illegal sites anymore. Oooh, they're forcing you to press enter to get to hacked content! EVAAL! Seriously..
