It's really quite a horrible concept - not knowing that you aren't yourself. But if you hot-swap one 'unit' of the brain at a time, so that you gradually go from 100% brainware to 100% software - perhaps that would help.

I love Nokia's hardware, and have great respect for Microsoft's mobile team. But I'm not sure whether two dinosaurs together can run faster than one.

The 'tin foil hat' madness isn't really in suspecting that there are people out there trying to control your mind. It's in believing that wearing a tin foil hat is going to stop them.

They definitely do; that's the whole reason why you are required to have a passport in the first place. RFID just makes the process more efficient; there's nothing on the chip that isn't contained within the combination of your passport num

I'm pretty sure you don't have to install Dropbox; the app is just using it as local storage 'in the cloud'. It'd be nice if there were an interface to swap it out for other things, like Microsoft, Google, EC2 or Rackspace storage. Hmm - ne

People would be better of putting their bountiful tin-foil-hat energies to use campaigning against the governments that introduce these laws. Writing a letter to your MP is far more meaningful than grinding off the ends of your fingers.

In the context of something like Chrome OS, stuff like this is vital to being able to do meaningful development work. It's also pretty cool to have your personal development environment, settings, etc. immediately accessible from wherever y

It reminds me of the sci-fi concept of creating hyper-intelligent, benevolent AIs to run human life as optimally as possible. That's basically what capitalism attempts to do, except with hyper-wealth in place of hyper-intelligence. As anyon

Care to explain the downvote? I'd be interested to hear the alternate argument. I'm not talking about censorship; I just think the idea that dying can make you more of a hero is counterproductive.

I feel we need to get away from the word 'martyrs'. It glorifies death in service, and turns it into something to be expected; even welcomed. One live freedom fighter is worth a thousand dead ones.

For me, Facebook is a cool address book that lets me contact people I know in a less 'immediate' way to text/phone. I'm not friends with people that I don't know in real life. I look at it once a day to see if anyone has posted anything int

The way I see it, there's a big difference between making fancy websites and making fancy web applications. Making a fancy website, presenting information to a user and maybe collecting a bit of data along the way, you're unlikely to collid

Human civilization (and not just our current iteration) is like a gigantic, uncontrollable beast. It tramples thousands underfoot, growing fat on their fears and impossible dreams. Some people may be riding up on top, out of trample range,
