I just finished a HACU internship at the VA in Oakland. It's cool to see another alum here on HN. HNIP was a great program and they definitely made things easy from the administrative point of view. (hefty travel reimbursements etc)

Persistence and time. A good part of programming can be self-taught, so you just have to give yourself the time and be patient with yourself.

I did say it was for noobs. Main useful bits: * cheap host, $10/month, root access so no configuration headaches. My search didn't turn up many of those, and the node hosting wiki page is non-obvious: http://github.com/ry/node/wiki/Hosting

Which again confirms my suspicion that Economy as a science at least on that level doesn't hold much water. The predictions might as well be random. This is not said enough. We are wrong again and again, yet we keep coming back for more.

Can you link to some examples of this? Do you use only dojo on the client side or is there something more?

You might also check out the Racket->JS compiler: http://planet.plt-scheme.org/display.ss?package=moby.plt&... I used it just last year — the developer, dyoo, is super responsive. I'm sure he'd be happy to talk shop with you: http

Also, make sure to read tons about how programmers feel about business guys / managers, and figure out how not to be like those people. There's tons of advice out there, and there may even be some good advice in the most offensive rants. Re

lisp.js will be a lisp-2 (like Common Lisp and unlike Clojure and Scheme) Can you talk more about this decision?

I've heard the east bay is a good option because it is much cheaper (though it will take a ~45 minutes* to get to SF for whatever meetups you'd like to attend). * From Berkeley, by BART

Do you do your best thinking when you are sitting down, staring at a monitor, or when you are pacing* around the room? I prefer standing, as it is so easy to take a step away from the computer and really concentrate on the problem at hand.

It may be that many of us have google voice accounts, and I believe there is an easy way to embed a "call me" widget. (Just letting you know since I didn't see it in the list on the front page) http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/answe
