There are machines that keep track of chassis intrusion and measure it into a PCR, making the hardware replacement part of the attack less feasible; I’ll grant that your “evil maid” could also pass off a completely separate device as being

Excel 98 had an Easter egg which was like Magic Carpet! If I recall correctly, you fly over a twisted purple and orange landscape while an obelisk emits the credits. 95 had the “Hall of Tortured Souls”—a 2.5D first-person walker—which was m

For what it’s worth, OpenConsole is conhost, and any improvements we make there go right back into Windows. We’ll probably[1] never get rid of conhost; the worst we’ll do is make it possible to update it without updating Windows so that f

Ah! I've been informed that the console host and renderer that support Nano Server (10.0.14393 or so) are quite unlike the version I'm familiar with. Nano Server uses bgfxcon exclusively, as well as some magic in a "console k

Trivia time! The windows console host (conhost) provides the “UI” for nano server. Even on desktop Windows, it’s built with support for running without a window manager. The rendering engine is named “wddmcon” and it lives in our repositor

As the guy responsible for that comment (and the dev lead for the team! Hi!) I can say it haunts me pretty much weekly. My parenthetical-laden snarky sense of humor, my use of italics to indicate speech-like emphasis and pretty much everyth

Your comment is based on the premise that there is, in common use, a directory called “-rf” but not one called “/rf”? Why would the former be any less likely than the latter?

Sorry, I had my Microsoft-colored glasses on. We use WinRT almost exclusively to refer to the new COM-based API surface that “modern” applications use. I see now that I’ve misunderstood you :) Back when VT parsing was implemented, it was an

You can get a package manager, yes, but you do not get an entire repository of prebuilt packages. I suspect that the author selected Debian for its packages , not its package manager.

My team shipped the next generation (after ANSI.SYS) of VT support with the first release of Windows 10 back in 2015. We keep adding things to it, trying to make sure we stay compatible with Xterm. It really is a different landscape now :)
