It's actually too general. What I mean with component here can be anything from a line of code to a class hierarchy. In a sense, using the word 'component' here was an ugly hack. I should have gone for the proper solution and

To be fair, PHP has a well-known problem of a lot of people not being able to properly judge the quality of the code they write ;) [1] [1] Of course I don't mean you, my dear PHP writing comment reader.

I love the term 'ugly hack'. It's a very short way of saying 'a solution for a problem that assumes too much of the current context in which this component is called, and is guaranteed to break when the context changes&#

It's worded quite strongly, but the programmer can only be certain that a certain bounds check is guaranteed to succeed if the compiler agrees. In other situations something about the current context may allow a bounds check to pass, b

It's the job of the compiler to optimize out things it knows are secure. If an array lookup is known to be secure at compile time , then LLVM already optimizes out bounds checking without the need of a fast mode [1]. If there is not e

The "unlikely"s and "by accident"s in your comment are correct if and only if you assume too much about the scenario in which LibreSSL is to be deployed. It goes far beyond web servers, you know. For example, what of rou

Curious they're explicitly naming this the "final evolution". First up, I'd be surprised if they continued with a "Raspberry Pi 2" soon. The RPi is still very adequate for its original goals in education and wi
