Yeah, reading this from the US, it looks weird. Our house is insulated using closed-cell spray foam installed in the late 1970's, and it has held up perfectly in the time since, in the generally wet and humid northeast U.S. We have con

So true. I still play videogames quite a lot, and I have been fortunate to have a successful marriage, family, and carreer (so far). Videogames are my hobby and way to relax. I rarely watch TV, movies, or sports or, honestly, read books. It

Grilled chicken nuggets have no breading. It's just grilled chicken. The pickles, kale salad, and drink have essentially zero calories. The only unhealthy thing on that list is the honey BBQ sauce which, per Chick-fil-a's website

I had this even in the 1990s. But now it really is different. Last week, I let my 7 year old go by herself to a Dollar Tree store by herself while I was with her siblings at another store in the same shopping center. A bit later, I went in

This is so true. It's socially isolating. We don't have the support structures we had even back when I was a kid, let alone 20 or 40 years before that, when society was really built around families having kids. I can only wonder w

Agreed. Most of that can be achieved with SQL (how hard is it to add STRICT?) or the code you use to interact with SQLite. I don't see how it's worth sacrificing backwards compatibility to achieve those things, which are mostly no

Nice. Textual is awesome. I used it to develop a screenshot database app for an online game. It was ridiculously easy and the resulting app is speedy.

Too bad the independent car mechanics are as good as scamming repair customers as the car dealerships are at scamming car buyers.

Agreed. At least in my office, certain features (videoconferencing/meetings/calendar) get tons of use every day. Microsoft made this product that was a commercial success by any measure but cannot seem to execute well on it. That

It doesn’t seem like they were even prioritizing size and weight. They made it out of heavy glass and aluminum, and sacrificed size to add the front-facing screen.

Yeah but this point has nothing to do with the actual ruling. The ruling is that the cruel and unusual punishments clause of the constitution does not prohibit the government from banning camping on public property. That's it.

Ok, but do video games give people more cognitive flexibility, or do people with more cognitive flexibility to begin with tend to like video games?

In context I think “attention” just means the poster hopes some people stop by her table to talk. I agree with that. I think this kind of activity is better for society as a whole than, for example, playing video games or watching TV. It’s

That’s actually not as unrealistic as it seems. Units in Civ have maintenance costs that represent feeding, housing, replacing people when they die, etc.
