Agreed on WW3. But they still may have enough nuclear weapons that they could end the world as we know it. I'm not saying that means the rest of us have to do anything in particular, but it's something that has to factor into the

Is it important the the reading is precisely correct for my use? It doesn't seem so. How do you know your thermometer is calibrated? Your thermostat? Your speedometer? Did you have your computer monitor calibrated by a professional? Th

The linked post isn’t great. But a CO2 monitor is one of the more interesting gadgets I’ve purchased in recent years. Left to it’s own devices, my house levels out at around 1500 ppm CO2. But turn on a bathroom fan on the other side of the

I think that is mostly imagined. Lots of “conservative” positions involve deep societal change and lots of “liberal” policies maintain the status quo. The reverse is true as well.

Same. I’ve been incredibly fortunate in that I rarely get mosquito bites - usually just a couple per summer. My mother will get 5-10 or more in an hour in the evening sitting right next to me, while I get none. Same with my wife. It’s crazy

I think people’s need to frame seemingly every issue and even their entire worldview as liberal vs conservative is the biggest problem in politics.

One boy. But I’ve never had to spend 20 minutes chasing him to get him back in the house in the morning so he isn’t stuck outside in the cold all day.

With 4 kids and a dog, I tell people this, but no one believes me. Dogs can absolutely be harder than kids a lot of the time.

Yeah! And why can't don't they have ports for SD cards, USB sticks, and floppy disks! At some point, things change. We're at that point with wired headphones. You can already share Bluetooth headphones across a Mac/iPhon

I do Amazon S3. Not because I have any particular love for Amazon, but because it was the default in the original template I used, and it was easy to set up and almost free. It has worked well. Most months I'm under the free tier usage

If the code is public, my guess is that someone else stole it and added it to an open source repo without authorization. Microsoft may have then picked it up from there.

The problem isn't Wikipedia though, it's Google's inability to filter all of the modern SEO crap from search results. If Wade made a website/wiki today, it's not going to be stifled in Google results by Wikipedia. I

Yes absolutely. I looked at using Medium a few years ago but ended up just putting together my own blog website on my own domain. When you read Medium content, much of it is junk optimized to hoover up as many views as possible. Articles of

That’s really not true. Americans love good public transportation where it’s available and works well. Most US cities have lots of buses, and many have light rail. But in a big country with a spread-out population, public transportation is

That’s me. I spent 4 years with the last gen and I don’t feel bad about spending $1600 this time. I actually feel lucky that I kind of skipped over the whole shortage.

Then just buy an iPhone, or get over it? You're acting as if Android vs. iPhone is an immutable part of a child's identity. It's not. You can get a totally workable used iPhone cheap, because they keep working for so long. It

It sucks but if you want convenience, get an Apple TV and hook it to your TV via HDMI. That way the TV stays offline and you can just buy and stream media from Apple with extreme convenience and decent privacy (they aren’t selling your pers

I like Alltrails but their Watch app certainly seems dependent on their phone app. If you open it without your phone nearby, it will just say "Waiting for the AllTrails App" or something similar.
