Kagi search engine subscription is easily my top choice ( https://kagi.com ). I'm really glad something can finally, truly replace Google search and be just as good or better (neither Bing nor DuckDuckGo were good enough when

I agree $700/hr is higher than necessary. But I'm not sure what kind of lawyer you are going to get for $100/hr if you're talking about within the U.S.

Honestly I love the AHK documentation. Some of the scripts I use daily are in Python, and some are in AHK. The AHK documentation is much easier to follow than the Python documentation IMO.

This is a ridiculous comparison. Google tells me an electric vehicle uses around 14kWh per day if you drive ~14k miles per year, and is much more efficient than an internal combustion engine. Your hypothetical 2kw space heater uses 24kWh a

Sure. But few go whining back to the original coder when the code is abandoned. It’s when the code is maintained, bugs are fixed, releases are put together, etc. that people start acting entitled. A better analogy would be someone who opens

Absolutely nothing. They have no obligations at all, just like any supplier who provides something as-is. And I agree with the author of the post that it's wrong and unjust for people to think otherwise. But so what? That does not chan

The title and the HN post say "I am not a supplier," and it's repeated multiple times in the article text. That's the part I take issue with.

I strongly disagree. FOSS software is king when it comes to value provided (but not, obviously, revenue generated). All of those things you list incorporate free software (e.g., MIT licensed software, public domain software) or at a minimum

"FOSS is infrastructure" and "FOSS maintainers are not suppliers" seem pretty at odds. It can't be both "infrastructure" and akin to a couch you dump in the trash (as in the example in your comment below).

When a cop pulls you over, “I’m not your driver” is true, but “I’m not a driver” is false. I’d call the difference a lot more than “incidental”.

The title of your article is “I am not a supplier,” not “I am not your supplier.” And yes, you literally are a supplier if you are putting things out there for free, with no strings and no support, and others are taking them. (The artic

Why even go the route of narrowly defining the term just to say “I’m not that”? It just makes the argument literally untrue even though the underlying points are correct and important.

“I am not a supplier,” they say, while supplying things. I agree with the fundamental points here. Expecting things like they describe out of open source volunteers is absurd. But screaming “I am not a supplier” in this context is like yell
