My street is fine. But it’s a quarter mile long, and the road it connects to is nearly impassable for pedestrians or bikes. The road is narrow, curvy with steep 5-20 ft high wooded or fenced hills on either side. It has no shoulder. It’s t

In the U.S., these spray cans typically have a bitterant that smells horrible and sticks to your hands. It’s especially bad if you turn them upside down. It’s not worth covering your house in that smelly stuff IMO.

Yeah I was genuinely curious what TED might have against the medical condition. Sad. The title is basically clickbait.

With dragons and magic, I don’t think it’s representing itself as historically accurate.

The legislation freezes development in time. It's unlikely that anything will be able to replace USB-C any time soon, because it is legislated in place. I'd rather see the tech continue to improve and let the marketplace decide wh

I think part of the problem is that we all spend so much time online, where we are anonymous and mostly unaccountable. People understandably tend to become hyper-sensitive after years of online discussion, which makes even in-person discuss

Start each note's name with the date. I use a system-wide auto-expanding shortcut with this format: 2023-09-13 So, for example: 2023-09-13 Thoughts on HN Post 2023-09-13 Call from F. Lastname 2023-09-12 Scratch 2023-09-11 To Do Otherwi

If you want a more "out of the box" solution, you can run Wagtail and Puput on top of Django. The Puput default template is a bit dated, but it's pretty easy to update and tweak to your preferences.

I can't imagine it would help with bats, given that I understand they use sound instead of light to navigate at night.

I still think that killing earmarks is what killed bipartisanship. There is just nothing that each side can give the other without earmarks, so there is no way to negotiate. Instead, it’s just full-on war 100% of the time. They were a tiny

Did you read the article? It says that they catch fire rarely, less often than anticipated and less often than gasoline-powered vehicles.

Is it though? Seems like (1) they are fans of the products; (2) they want to write about stuff they like; and (3) they figure out that they can make a career out of it.

Icewind Dale was amazing. I feel like Tyranny is IWD’s spiritual successor as a great game lost in a bigger game’s shadow.

Dragon Age 2 had some unfinished parts and cringey parts but fundamentally was still a decent game. I’ve tried Inquisition three times now and can’t get through it. It’s just a slog IMO.

Yeah but a lot of it is survivorship bias. There was plenty of crap in the old days too, but we’ve thrown it all away by now, leaving only the good stuff.

Yeah their moderation is awful. So many times, I've found my exact question with a "closed, duplicate of x" note, where "x" is not my question at all and is entirely unhelpful to me.
