The focus here is on Docker Compose projects rather than container images. If Compose works for you, why go through the hassle of packaging the app natively?

Go would be a good fit for this kind of application. But Rust is a great choice too. Keep up the good work!

qbittorrent + gluetun works like magic (if you’re running containers). https://github.com/qdm12/gluetun

Fair enough. I actually run Proxmox too, but have most services running on NixOS as a VM. Best of both worlds haha :)

There is a middle ground imo: run your application/services as containers on top of NixOS. Granted, this doesn’t work for all cases.

Exactly. The majority of HN users have a privilege that they are not even aware of: visa-free/on arrival access to a large chunk of the world.

A tool that makes it easier to run Docker Compose projects on NixOS. It’s essentially a Compose backend that targets a mix of NixOS + systemd + Podman/Docker. https://github.com/aksiksi/compose2nix

I just use NixOS as a VM and run services as containers directly. Self-plug: I wrote a tool that makes it easy to run Docker Compose projects on NixOS [1]. This way, I get the advantages of NixOS config, while also being able to run arbitra

A VPS that proxies traffic over Tailscale is another neat option. I use this approach to serve self-hosted services that I want to be accessible over the internet.

Their competitors have access to the same tech. If TSMC’s process wasn’t special, they wouldn’t be years ahead of the competition.

Yep, ZFS reads everything in the array and validates checksums. ZFS (at least on Linux) ships with scrub systemd timers: https://openzfs.github.io/openzfs-docs/man/master/8/zpool-sc...

I suppose that’s one option. But sometimes you want the ability to rollback on bad or potentially destructive schema changes.

Interesting. What happens if your schema is rolled back (e.g., to remove a new column), but your binary isn’t? Or is the idea to always deploy schema rollbacks alongside your binary? Edit: Also, curious about how this would work with a prog

Funnily enough, this is a very common approach :) With a Flake, you just need to declare a new output like this: https://github.com/aksiksi/ncdmv/blob/ebd57d02a0fe653e277003... Then to build it: nix bui

I am saying it’s not a monopoly at all because it’s a) not the only player in the PC games store market and b) has no mechanism in place to be able to enforce such a position even if it was.

How is Steam a monopoly? The platform it runs on (Windows) is open, unlike the App Store. Competitors exist on said platform, including a store & game pass run by the platform owner. The fact that Steam still runs the show is a testamen

Not to take away from the work done on the plugin, but that’s a “basic” skip intro implementation. To reliably be able to find intros/credits, you need to some non-local analysis - basically, you need to look for common chunks of audio

Yeah, if you use the VMA approach, you’ll need to manually import the VM via UI or CLI. I wonder if a combination of nix-generators and Terraform or Ansible would work..
