This is great for SpaceX. A more-or-less anticipated event that was handled perfectly by automatic systems is being reported as a potentially catastrophic failure. They get all the great press for proving the safety of their design without

I don't see how the red text "Web Platform Docs is an open wiki that anyone can help improve. See the getting started guide[0] to learn more." in the alert box at the top of the page could be more clear. [0] http://docs.webplatform.org/wiki

I appreciate the backup, though I'm not really hurt-- getting downvoted for that is pretty amusing. It does seems like an interesting little pattern on HN, though. I've found I tend to get the most upvotes for expressing the strongest opi

It varies, but usually I compress my diaphragm to force air from my lungs past a set of vibrating membranes which produce a base tone, then modulate that tone using the various muscles in my mouth to produce a set of distinct acoustic patte

It remains the case that a compass points both north and south by nature; which is a matter of convention.

Every mechanical compass I've used has two points. Or none, I guess, on the spherical ones.

This is a digression, but I have trouble with the idea of hypocrisy in general. It's difficult for me to conceive that, morally, espousing wrong beliefs and adhering to them in one's personal life is better than espousing wrong beliefs wh

> There's nothing satirical about that. It's pretty obvious this is about perceived hypocrisy on Apple's part. That's what I'm saying. This is pretty clear-cut. There's going to be a lawsuit. It's definitely ironic, and maybe a bit hypo

Sorry, I don't understand the satire here. It sounds like you're mimicking the response to claims that Apple stole designs from Braun? But the two situations are nothing alike -- cribbing industrial design elements from defunct products is

Infants have no ability to care for their parents. Do you truly argue that a child, when they become able, has no responsibility to take care of their parents, when they become infirm? And metaphor need not hew closely to semantics, but

Well, it's not a direct causal connection -- that's how we use "and" in English -- but basically, moral responsibility is commutative. Bears don't have a responsibility towards us: they're bears, they don't realize it's wrong to eat hikers.

Actually, I kind of like this analogy. If 4chan are bears, that means they don't have any moral responsibility, and it's okay to shoot them.
