I always use the "Not interested" and "Don't recommend channel" options when I visit YouTube. You really have to babysit the algorithm to get value from the recommendations beyond time wasting.

There is a big difference between Facebook having cameras inside your house and someone like Valve. We know that Valve makes money primarily from software sales, whereas Facebook's core business is collecting user data for targeted adv

It is however unlikely that any competing headset will be laser focused on low weight/size like this one.

Wow, that's an astonishing improvement in weight compared to other VR headsets. Here's Meta's line-up for comparison: https://i.imgur.com/JoTt10p.png

This is very impressive! I tried it with a big Unreal project and it handled it without blinking. Much faster than any other editor I've seen. It doesn't look like it supports memory breakpoints? I end up tied to Visual Studio bec

Meta definitely isn't focused on fidelity and graphics. Their mobile VR push degraded VR graphics significantly.

Yahoo mail offers a similar thing. It's a lot of effort to generate and track unique addresses whenever you sign up for something though.

Size and weight has been going up over time: https://i.imgur.com/2fOAFqI.png There's no evidence we will reach the mythical lightweight glasses any time soon. I believe that is needed for VR to be accepted on a scale

What makes you think something as unique and hard-fought as the First Amendment will be applied to the Internet when all trends point in the other direction, both on and offline?

Software wastes any gains we get from hardware. See Jonathan Blow's talk on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeAMiBKi_EM

This github page seems a bit casual/flippant, there's no explanation of what the extension does or anything to build trust/confidence in the author. Hopefully it gets more developed as it sounds like a good idea.

No, a Meta account is the equivalent of a Facebook account, not the equivalent of an Oculus account. Oculus was a VR company, not an advertising/data tracking company and their account system reflected that.

That would require some regulation, since commercial web design deliberately obfuscates the underlying structure.

This is revisionist history. Facebook didn't contribute to the early days of modern VR, they just came in and bought it once someone else had done the hard work. The first VR headset that let you get up and move around with motion cont

Petty voyeurism will happen (we've seen enough stories about this with Amazon Alexa) but I agree that's nowhere near the main problem with this kind of technology.

I presume you're not aware of Facebook's research into eye tracking for VR. It goes a lot further than just identity. I believe their main interest is gauging emotional response for better targeted advertising.

You would be more convincing with reasoned arguments instead of this "guilt by association" tribalism. You do everyone here a disservice by resorting to ad hominem.

Are you sure your phone microphone isn't always on? At the very least your voice assistant is listening all the time to detect the trigger word (does this send the voice to the cloud for AI assisted detection?). Also if you search for

Ubisoft seems like an outlier on Steam. The way many of their games just launch UPlay, which then does its own downloading and ownership check is very strange and awkward.

It's been 7+ years since Microsoft bought Minecraft, I'm honestly surprised it took this long for them to do this customer hostile stuff. We had a good 5 years before they started ruining it.
